I love everything happening in this thread right now.

Also, and I don't mean to offer Nintendo an excuse or to beat a dead horse, but people who criticize Nintendo's output right now tend to forget that for the last two years, we've been in a pandemic.

A pandemic that has seriously hampered the ability of people to work, develop, build, ship, etc. Everyone was affected, every country, every business, everything. So to expect Nintendo to match the first couple of Switch years right now with what's been going on shows to me an extreme amount of naivety or blindness.

All in all though, I'd say they've been doing fairly admirably under the conditions.

I get Mr. Berns's point (sorry to assume your pronouns, I'm just making a Simpson's joke). BOTW and Odyssey are still probably the best games on the system. But that's really only because those two games are all-timers. A lot of the other really great games for the system can have a divisive aesthetic, like Splatoon or Arms, or they are good games within a particular genre, but not "transcendent" experiences (like Astral Chain, or Octopath, or Fire Emblem). Not everyone is going to love those.

A lot of the games in Vase's list I'll ride or die for, but there's just as many that I think are garbage/wastes of time. I like visual novels, and even I'll admit those FDC games are terrible/interesting only from a historical perspective. Play Great Ace Attorney instead for the love of God.

This I also understand, and I hope I made clear my argument was less about personal preference and more just about factual accuracy. It's a big difference to say "I don't like the games for this system" and to say "there are no games for this system".

You are absolutely right that a lot of the games Nintendo makes will cater to specific audiences. Splatoon for example is the kind of game I would only purchase to complete a collection; not because I actively am interested in playing it. I mean, I am interested to give it a try, but multiplayer isn't generally my thing.

That being said, I feel like the sheer variety of games on the Switch should at least raise the chances that you find something to your liking. If you like BOTW, you might also enjoy Xenoblade. If you like Odyssey, you might also like Tropical Freeze or Star Allies or the upcoming Kirby game that looks amazing. It's not 100% perfect, I'll admit.

Also, I will 100% recommend Great Ace Attorney, but I also enjoy Famicom Detective Club, and will continue to recommend it in the hopes Nintendo makes more.

But the fact that Nintendo even thought to remake those games and localize them is bonkers to me, and to me further evidence that Nintendo is truly trying to target as many audiences as possible.

Playing BoI all day, hooked again. Very committed to breaking through the ceiling i've been stuck at for quite a while. Repentance has made shit harder for sure.

Switch is my favorite console of all time, i'll take quality/variety over 60 FPS any day of the week.

I do need a XCX remake so I can put my WiiU in storage

My feelings on FDC are that I'm happy that Nintendo decided to localize/remake them, in hopes that they contribute to the genre of Visual Novels themselves, but they're shooting themselves in the foot by not doing enough to enhance the quality of life experience. There's so much in those games that is purely illogical trial and error. There were so many times where I had no idea what to do, and it was all because I had to talk to an NPC again about a topic I had already asked them about, without the game giving any indication whatsoever that their response would be different.

Yeah, I get that. I'm kind of used to things like that from other games, but it's certainly not the best game design.

Yeah I just can’t get thinking Nintendo having lackluster first party games. That’s like the one thing they do amazingly well at. Metroid Dread is a straight masterpiece

They definitely have some solid IP’s I love but others I could care less about. Different strokes for different folks. That’s why I have Xbox, PC, PS and Nintendo. Variety is the spice of life.

Of course, this is likely true. And they’ll probably do a main hybrid SKU + a more powerful portable exclusive SKU next as well, just like with Switch. I was just saying, you know, Nintendo is going to Nintendo and they could at any point randomly decide that their next console is going back to having games on cassette tapes like the Commodore 64 lol

  15. I didn't know so many people were into virtually driving cars. Maybe it's just the games I've played in particular, but the driving in Mass Effect, Arkham, and Borderlands series were easily the worst aspects of those games.

Oh, you haven’t lived until you have played a Forza Game. LIGHT YEARS ahead of those games in terms of driving. Not hard tbh because the driving in those games is pretty terrible.

Hands down the best driving sim out there.

Forza is probably the best overall but I still think peak Burnout driving is better

In terms of plain fun, yes, but since the spinoff of Horizon, it’s no contest.

I could never play a driving game not because it could be boring but because I would want to do it on a steering wheel and I’ll never buy one

I don't understand why there are even more ports or remasters because some games just seem like such absolute slam dunks like Tony Hawk Underground and Need for Speed Underground.

I don't know how well those last few Sony driving games did, so this might be wrong, but my gut feeling is that driving game fans are much more likely to play them on Xbox or PC, which means they're likely just going to play Forza (huge budget, big licenses, great online mode and on GamePass), so it's a tough market for other mainstream-oriented driving games (some niche driving games do well of course).
