Switch is the best concept (that Sony did first) and Nintendo would be fucking stupid to ditch it.

I don’t think Nintendo will ditch the switch concept. The Switch will reach 100 million units this Christmas, 2 years faster than the Wii reached that mile stone.

I mean if the switch stops being the switch I’ll never buy another one of their consoles ever again. Ever.

I’m terrified that the next console won’t be a hybrid for the sole reason that Nintendo is stupid and doesn’t like to repeat themselves ever. They’ll get rid of the best feature of the system solely for the sake of doing something different.

Hot take: I sold my switch like a year and a half ago and haven’t thought about it since. Just an absolute dearth of quality first party titles and hardware equivalent to ten year old android tablets is just not a winning combo for me.

The only way they wouldn’t make another hybrid is if there would be a good reason to separate handhelds and home consoles again. It would have to very good because shortly before the Switch they restructured the whole company away from that. I don’t know what they know but I can’t imagine there being one right now.

I'm definitely okay with criticizing Nintendo, and I get to each their own, but this sounds absolutely ludicrous.

The Switch has arguably the best first party support Nintendo's given a console since the SNES IMO. I'd be curious to know what titles you think the system is missing.

New IP would be a nice start. AC and Smash are cool, but nothing I stick with for more than a week or two. Luigi’s Mansion is fine I guess, but not really my thing, especially as a full priced title. Link’s Awakening the same. Mario Tennis and Super Mario Party were 65 bucks each down the toilet. Mario Kart isn’t even a Switch game technically.

The Switch is such an overwhelming success that Nintendo has all of the resources in the world to scale up and make banger ass BOTW level or even just extremely good new entries for whatever franchise you want to name. Instead, I walked away with Mario Odyssey, Zelda, Fire Emblem, and a bunch of indie titles that are better experiences on other hardware.

I mean... (shrugs). I don't know what to tell you if all of those great games don't mean anything to you. There's a bunch of other titles that you haven't mentioned, but I feel like you just might not be a Nintendo fan. Which is okay, don't get me wrong.

But I don't see how "I don't like any of the games they put out" translates to a dearth of first party support. And they actually have put out new IP. Ring Fit and Astral Chain come to mind right away. It might not be of interest to you, but that's not the same thing.

If you're just not into Nintendo style games that's completely fine, but they do have new games and new IPs and a lot of the indie games run on the console perfectly.

Even if you hate it and don’t think it’s a Switch game, Mariokart is the highest selling game on the Switch and it’s a console seller. It’s also so much fun!

The Switch is the best-supported Nintendo console period, both from first and third party devs, since like the SNES yeah

    WarioWare: Get It Together!
    Mario Party Superstars

This doesn't include remasters or ports like Skyward Sword.

We've gotten a Fire Emblem, a WarioWare, multiple Pokemon games (with more on the way), a Metroid game, multiple Zelda games, Super Mario Odyssey, multiple Mario Party games, etc. And this is all on one system. They have released much more for this console than anything else and they aren't even done yet and this isn't including a lot of third party exclusives and prominent indies.

Not being a Nintendo fan is fine, but the comments about their content holds no water.

I’m a long time Nintendo fan, and have enjoyed a handful of Switch games. For me it just comes down to the fact that a fair amount of the hits aren’t a hit with me, and there are a similarly fair amount of misses I was expecting hits from.

At the end of the day I just don’t think they’ve come close to delivering on the hype we all had surrounding the platform after those two 10/10 games in the first six months. Kind of like watching a show that has a killer first couple of seasons and drops off in quality, never coming close to hitting the past heights.

If you know anything about the Japanese gaming market right now, you know there is zero percent chance Nintendo abandons the hybrid model. If anything, they go back to making a full portable, but this also extremely unlikely.

I just don't understand because from my perspective, as much as the first year was great, I think everything that's come after has just been even better. I think they definitely matched the hype. Every time a new big Nintendo game came out like Pokemon or Animal Crossing, everyone I knew would get it and play it together. Pre-pandemic we'd all be sharing our experiences or raiding with each other or going to each other's houses or to a local bar and just game.

The portability of the Switch gave me a high boost to my social circle with gaming that no other console has matched so far.
