Buying a cassette at the merch table and sticking it in my pocket is the best feeling of “buying something” and not having to worry about it all night.

I bought American Football LP1 at the Polyvinyl table at P4K for $5. Great feeling.

is it the same for you? Prestigious

I like good band profit margins and the the idea of buying something portable/durable at a merch table, but there is a 0% chance of me ever listening to a cassette.

Yeah, I grew up with cassettes and can't imagine ever going back, ha. I don't really have any use for CDs either, but I'd be more likely to go that route again than tapes.

kanye released a boot that looks like rejected concept art for dune for over $300 today. these people are delusional and have no concept of what something should cost, because stans will pay whatever they are charging for it to sell the product out immediately. they don't have to have a grasp on reality so they don't.

Adele will sell all 500k ordered before the end of 2022. That’s a guarantee.

Long awaited newly refurbed presses are finally being delivered to some plants, I believe QRP and a few others have posted about it on their IG’s. I don’t think it’ll dent the demand, but here’s hoping.

i finally got my Colour Revolt shipping email after ordering it 6(?) months ago.

I just wish more labels would stop with the 8 month pre-orders and wait until they receive the inventory. I get that some scenarios they base pressing numbers by pre-order demand, but for stuff like Motion City Soundtrack's CTTM that was just repressed, it was a perfect scenario of "we know 600 of these will sell, wait til they're pressed, and then put up online orders".

They’re often paying for the pressing with the money from pre-orders, at least for smaller bands/labels.

Yeah that's what I was meaning about pressing numbers based on pre-order demand. Makes total sense in that aspect.

Picked up Silversun Pickups' Swoon and Widow's Weeds at their show yesterday without realizing Swoon is a double LP. For $30 hell yeah lol, even if it doesn't have a lyric booklet.

While entirely true, the majors (specifically Legacy releases) are still the highest selling records at years end.

They’ve taken the hobby over and manage to put a million copies of Rumors in every kid brother’s and sister’s hands each year.

I would like the record to reflect that my copy of Rumours is from the '70s and is absolutely beat to hell, as god intended.

where would i be if i was my brain Prestigious

    Free business idea

a bunch of smaller labels raise funds to make a plant to press their shit. Fill in the empty time by charging a pretty penny for the big boys to come in and get their stuff pressed. Maybe dedicate a week or two to print Rumors, 21, Thriller, ya know albums that are SO hard to find used copies of.

I don’t think the smaller labels could swing it, if I’m being honest.

CHEAP is 100k, big boys run 200-250+. Refurb’d vintage even more.

Also, IF anyone ever did do that (and it wasn’t an idiot billionaire pet project) - it’d be short lived as it’s hard to justify turning away a Major willing to pay many times more than what any label or band could afford. Not to mention the volume they would give you.

I think it's a risky proposition for potential investors because it's still unclear if the vinyl resurgence is a temporary trend (at least in the mainstream) or if it's viable long-term.

An alternative is lathe-cut records. Lathe-cutting machines are a lot less expensive, but the sound quality isn't as good and it's much harder to do high volumes. But it might be a more viable option for smaller releases.

Almost pulled the trigger on OCYC since its my fav but I have the 180g version so saved my money. $35 is a bit steep. Shit sold out in like 5 minutes flat though
