I hate this take in parts of the fanbase, DS2 is such a great game and PVP has literally never been better

  2. Are there any good metroidvanias closer to Ori than to HK in terms of having a lighter aesthetic and atmosphere? A quick search shows maybe Guacamelee and Shantae fit the bill but I've never seen anyone bring those up in here.

I tried a bit of Sable and the Avengers but got a bit dizzy so I'm looking for something 2d with a lot of exploration

Shante is not really a Metroidvania, but still good. Guacamele is very good.

I would say the later Shantaes fit the bill, with the exception that they aren't one continuous area.

I second Guac, which I have mentioned here before.

I'm also going to throw out Owlboy, Yoku's Island Express, and the SteamWorld Dig games.

Dark Souls 2 is a great game but 1 & 3 are both better and they're more linked in terms of the story connections. Plus the combat in Elden Ring is closer to the combat in 3 than the combat in 2. So that's why I'd recommend at least playing 1 and 3 before Elden Ring and not 2 or Demon's Souls (or Bloodborne or Sekiro, which are both different).

  8. Huh I guess I missed it. Only the second one is on GamePass, do I need to have played the first one?

You don’t need to. I’m surprised it’s not on there as it’s a first party title. It’s $15 for the deluxe edition and it’s definitely worth that.

I watched the elden ring and the game of course looks sick and I’m sure the speed runs will be fun.

it also just makes me wish they would do their version of fighting all the pantheon gods.

Anybody here play FFXIV? I'm not an MMO player and I'm playing on PS5, so I'm a bit overwhelmed. Any tips? I'm a human gladiator.

I did not care for DS2 enough to play much of it. DS1 has its charm but its unplayable if I've played Bloodborne/Sekiro recently.

I replay DS1 every 6-8 months or so, no issues. DS2 is genuinely a bad game IMO. Bad design (level, enemy and boss designs). It’s hideous. It’s janky. Though I will agree that the PvP was solid, that was what I ultimately spent most of my time doing.

Echoing all the Elden Ring comments here, this looks great. Almost makes me want to pick up Demons Souls.... that I havent played.

I have a pretty cool gaming related story about my friend/peer:

He's been wanting an RTX 3080ti gfx card since before they came out. He has a new PC built and ready to go just using his 6 year old gfx card until he can get a new one. He's came up empty handed every time he's found them online or in person due to selling out so fast. Me and him both manage at a Best Buy. One day 2 weeks ago one came in off the truck shipment, but it was for a customer that had bought it online for an in-store pick up. We joked that we should cancel it and tell the customer "sorry bud, fell off the truck". That day my friend that wanted the card happened to be the one to close out the order for that gfx card customer. Cool late-20's military guy. They talked for 20 mins about joking around about cancelling the order and about PC build stuff. Fun stuff.

Yesterday my friend was at work, and the same guy that bought the card came back in to see him so he could return the card just so my friend could buy it. I wasn't there but he was absolutely floored. Customer dude had found one at a Microcenter randomly(and cheaper with military discount) and made that awesome gesture of kindness that made someone's world for that time.

Stuff like that makes me happy.

I dont care if its soon at all but if Nintendo takes away the ‘switch’ capability in their next console they are morons.

I would be really surprised if the next console wasn't built similarly to the Switch. It seems like such an obvious evolution that to do anything else would be a huge step backwards.

  25. Nate_Johnson

The Switch has almost eclipsed the Wii. I hope they keep that momentum and don’t force people to buy another “console” so soon. That design clearly works for a lot of people.
