    A (Cancelled) Dork Prestigious

Without Trump they win a purple state this year and with Trump last year they came within a hair of winning the presidency again. And public sentiment is only going to get worse against the Democrats in the next three years. Which is why this is a disastrous place for Democrats to be in. Both with and without Trump they’re not doing well.

Yeah. This backs my feelings that if Republicans manage to nominate someone like Haley in 2024 who they can both dress up as "not Trump" to the suburbanites while still dress up as "still Trump" for the rural folks... its gonna be real bad.

I guess maybe it depends on how you define the "best messaging"

But I feel like kinda by the definition of how I'm using it, if one side is able to get a lot more of their people to show up in vote in a midterm.... that side had better messaging.

  5. Meh, currently this is going to be a within expected margins kind of victory, trying to tie an elect win to something as broad and simple as "messaging" just feels like reaching for something to simplify it into a soundbite instead of the multivariate process it is. I just don't think it's that "easy."

A race called in an hour and half? What is this, 2019? I guess COVID really is over.

But in all seriousness, I'm not really surprised by this, as all the polls have been trending in this direction and fearmongering seems to be working really well right now. I'm just waiting for people to start blaming the progressives holding up the infrastructure bill for this loss

This will not get better next year. If anything, you’re gonna see the GOP double down on the CRT/SAVE OUR CHILDREN heavily because now they know it’s a winning strategy.

Jersey feels like a shitty consolation prize but they did just have a Republican Governor 4 years ago

TBH I think there's a chance they overplay their hand with it. McAuliffe as a candidate feels icky in the same ways Hillary did in 2016 to me. He just oozes "slick politician" type to me and doesn't seem very likable. Which Virginia is blue enough that that could easily be overcome in and of itself, but not when you throw in typical GOP backlash in a midterm AND political winds currently not in favor of Dems. I think a better, more likable candidate wins it, tbh. And I think the Dems numbers improve between now and next November, as I expect inflation and supply chain shit to chill out a bit by next spring/summer. Plus Biden/Dems will most likely have big victories on BBB and Infrastructure to run on.

It's crazy to comprehend but NJ has not re-elected a dem governor in the last 44 years

because the bills are almost definitely going to get passed. And as much as very online lefties don’t like them, suburban white people who only passively pay attention will eat the messaging about child tax credit and child care and construction workers working on roads and etc up

Oh no, they already blew it letting that get out of control. You’re underplaying just how energized and fanatical the GOP base has become within a year, they’re out for blood and since those two chucklefucks in the Senate have turned the infrastructure bill into a headline fodder fiasco, the Dems look mighty weak right now. It will not get better.

I would bet money on Biden approval numbers swinging back up 5ish points after both bills get passed into law.
