    Oh okay, so ISP infrastructure is going to vastly change in the next few years?

    Bandwidth don't sprout out of nowhere bruh. Adaptability of fiber is taking significant time and thats only happening in cities, rural america getting fiber anytime soon is a pipe dream.

    It can, at what rate I can't say but as the general public moves towards using the internet more than ever, I can see it happening. If I'm wrong, feel free to dredge up this post and mock me. I won't get mad.

    I'm kinda shocked this doesn't have a 4K blu ray. Doesn't affect me in the slightest but damn you would have assumed.

    Has Sony said why it doesn't? Could it be a cost issue maybe?

    Definitely I'm dumbfounded it's not. I expect to hear some PR about adding a UHD drive would have increased the unit price by 100 bucks or so.

    I'm pretty sure the cheapest standalone UHD blu ray player right now is some shitty samsung one that costs $300.

    They seem to be damn expensive across the board One S being an outlier.

    Sony is a hardware manufacturer, so it's insane that Microsoft managed to include a UHD drive in their device and Sony couldn't.

  8. Nick

    @fangclubb Prestigious

    Eh that in itself is an explanation. They have their blu ray players to sell at extortionate prices.

    Except their direct competitor in the gaming sphere is offering the same thing they do, with an actual drive that can support 4k.

    If I'm someone who doesn't own either console what reason would I have to take the PS4-Pro over the Xbone-S at this moment?

  10. Nick

    @fangclubb Prestigious

    I'm not saying that as a defence. Just a possible reason.

    It's stronger, their friends might have it, it has a much great public mindshare. I mean I do think it's a mistake not having UHD but it's not really a major selling point right now. UHD blu rays aren't huge sellers, right now. Obviously as it takes off the Xbox is in a much better position for that.

    I think you're focusing far too much on one single thing. The common person won't care about 4k Blu-Ray drives, or the new wifi specs Sony have. Cost, games, pretty graphics, what their friends play; that's all that matter to the common person.

    Oh wait the Xbox One-S is priced at $299?

    Oh my goodness, I was under the assumption it was 400 bucks. This isn't going to work.

    The public mindshare has been turning over time as MS has put in effort, while Sony has seemingly coasted.

    Mindshare is not the same thing as sales figures, but whatever.

    @fangclubb Prestigious

    This really is not true. Enthusiast mindshare might be going slightly back towards MS, but the public mindshare is still very much with Sony. UHD Blu Ray doesn't change that.

    Xbox first month selling more than PS4 in over a year was July, and it was outsold by the 3DS! Not to mention it's on life support everywhere outside the US. I think MS has done a good job the last year/year and a half but I wouldn't say they're gaining public mindshare. Sure we'll see over the holidays. Xbox will no doubt have sold more for August, but with PS4 slim and it's price cut I would say that'll be PS4 back selling more through the holidays m

    Yeah I'm really looking forward to those rubber grips. I always struggle accidentally depressing the left joystick instead of just simply pushing up. So instead of moving forward, I accidentally crouch. Very frustrating especially when I'm playing Halo live.

    I also read that you could plug the controller into any computer running Windows 10? First time hearing that one.

    Again, these aren't products for the casual crowd. Not sure where you all are getting that from.

    Yep you can watch 4K Blu-Ray movies on it.

    The new consoles aren't for the casual crowd? Ok dude, strange world you live in.

    Anyway, PS4 Slim is £259. So direct competition for the Xbox One S (£249-£299). Whatever the special Xbone coming out is, is it going to match the PS4 Pro at £349? I suppose Microsoft can package it with FIFA and it can sell well in the UK. Basically comes down to FIFA v CoD.

    The PS4-Pro and Scorpio aren't going to sell as "New consoles" for the casual crowd. The marketing has been specifically on the idea that you'll be able to play the same games on current models, but they'll look better on the new systems.

    You're the one living in a strange world thinking there is going to be wide adaptability of these systems, especially since so much of the upsell is based on 4k.

  23. Platy

    Sam

    Why not? Because of the Slim/S being cheaper? You'd be surprised what the lure of fancy graphics and possible VR can do to a casual crowd.

  24. Nick

    @fangclubb Prestigious

    Ignoring the casual crowd means less sales though, that's the only thing I think Sony got right about the PS4P. It's not overly expensive. If it was $500 it would be DOA worse than the Wii U, by being $400 it's where the PS4 was in price not so long ago. It gives casual consumers two different options if they're looking for a PlayStation. Granted casual consumers generally like the lower priced option, but you do get some dummies who will go for "its stronger"

    One thing I wonder is where will the PS4P be when Scorpio comes out, that's obviously going to be a stronger box with more bells and whistles, will the PS4P be $350 when that drops? Is that an advantage against losing the power race?
