    Meet me in Montauk. Prestigious

I don't think my fall can handle this and new Bon Iver at the same time.

Like how the new songs are named after the first words sung. That's the opposite of their first album, where they were named after the last.

both of these songs kind of just wash over me without leaving any lasting impression :/

  6. Aside from "Never Meant", I think pretty much all of their songs need to be listened to in context of the entire album in order to fully appreciate them. At least that's how it is for me.

i like the new songs. the only thing that's a grower for me is the vocals. i haven't listened to any Owen songs so i haven't heard Mike Kinsella's voice evolve over the years

heh one of my biggest problems with the first song is that it just kinda sounded like an owen song to me

I really don't think this sounds like owen. To me it's classic American football with mature vocals and really good use of space. The first lp was modeling miles Davis and this does the same thing

1:25-1:49 on Give Me the Gun reminds me a ton of Twin Peaks.

    and a little jingle...

This is the most dad-rock sounding thing ever and has tainted the classic name of "American Football". I'm not sure how long-time fans are happy about this at all...

It's basically like they rebranded Owen....added a small amount of twinkly guitars...and called it a day. There's zero effort here to recapture what was American Football imo.

I think the drums on this are tonally different from a lot of Owen stuff that I've heard

As a fairly new fan of AF I can't really comment. I definitely enjoy the new songs a lot though.

The new song was whatever. I think the OG album will go down as one of those "time and place" albums for me that really, really means a lot but can't ever be recaptured simply because I'm not the same person I was the first time I heard it. I hope that this proves me wrong I guess, I enjoyed the first single a decent amount.
