Yeah, I still can’t wrap my head around it. I love Faye’s look but her acting seems pretty rough, and the fight scenes look super sluggish. I’m definitely going to give it a shot because it does look kind of fun, but not in the same way the anime is.

I have a feeling they're gona restructure it so Ballad of Fallen Angels is the season finale with Spike getting thrown out of the window and ending on a cliffhanger.

It's either her, the writing or the directing and I'm leaning much more on the later two, but I'll have to watch to be sure.

    Her dialogue is so cringy.

Yeah reviews seem bad, pretty disappointing. Might not even check it out anymore.

I watched the original series a few weeks ago. The trailer for this doesn’t look too bad. I actually like the casting. I’ll give it a try.

  9. First episode was fine. Maybe my expectations are low because it's been 15yrs since I saw the anime, but so far it's not bad.

Yeah first episode was fine. But especially with these hour long runtimes, it made me just want to go rewatch the anime again which is also on netflix

  11. Watched the third episode, still having a good time. They started using Real Folk Blues for the ending, such a jam

  12. Halfway point. Still enjoying it. I actually like that we get to see more of Vicious and Julia. And even though the episodes are longer, it doesn't feel drawn out.

It's not used for every episode though

I tried to set my love for the original aside and judge this as it's own thing, but I really hated the first episode.

The action is really bad. It's super slow, there's constant cuts and slow motion. It's just really boring and uninteresting choreography. Jet going on about his daughters birthday doll was super weird. And no Spike in a poncho fighting Asimov!

It all just feels really cheap and fan made, I was planning on watching the whole series but I don't know if I can do 9 more episodes of that.

Also that scene where Spike is practicing on the wood dummy thing and it keeps cutting to his hilariously sweaty abs legit felt like that gag in the Reno 911 movie

Oof, I didn't like the Mad Pierrot episode. Was really looking forward to seeing how they'd handle that one. Very disappointing. Failed to capture what made him so terrifying in the anime.

  16. Finished it. Not great, but also not bad. I have mixed feelings about some of the narrative changes but I also admire that it's such a departure from its source material. I think if you go into it with an open mind and let it be its own thing you could potentially enjoy it.

does the action improve at all? I’m fine with it being a dumb action show but there needs to be decent fight scenes.

  18. The only fight scenes I found underwhelming were in the Mad Pierrot episode.

I don't think I'd call the show dumb, though. I can see the humor being very hit or miss for some people, sure, and not everyone will like the overarching Syndicate subplot with Vicious and Julia they added, but I personally like the changes they made to Julia, and to Faye.

Do they do Jupiter Jazz? I will watch if there’s a good scene with Space Lion otherwise idk

  20. I don't think so. It's been a long time since I saw the anime, but from just looking at episode synopses, I think the correlations are:

(netflix episode, title) - (anime episode, title)
    01 Cowboy Gospel - 01 Asteroid Blues
    02 Venus Pop - 22 Cowboy Funk
03 Dog Star Swing - 02 Stray Dog Strut
    04 Callisto Soul - 03 Gateway Shuffle
05 Darkside Tango - 16 Black Dog Serenade
    06 Binary Two-Step - ???
07 Galileo Hustle - 15 My Funny Valentine
    08 Sad Clown A-Go-Go - 20 Pierrot Le Fou
    09 Blue Crow Waltz - ???
10 Supernova Symphony - 05 Ballad of Fallen Angels

That's mostly just going off what characters they're up against in each episode, I'm sure many specifics have changed in the adaptation.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

pretty surprised they adapted Mad Pierrot in the first season of this. feels very much like a latter days episode to me

Four episodes in and I'm enjoying it enough. Its not great, but enough for me to watch through.
