It’s funny. I was never in either camp. My parents raised me on James Taylor and Bruce Hornsby which automatically put me in the Caedmon’s Call/Rich Mullins camp of Christian music culture. Something like ”low key reformed alternative folk songwriters who look like regular people”. Now I’m an Andrew Peterson diehard so not much has changed.

Honestly, I can respect bands like DC Talk, but they’ve always been too on the nose for me. I’ve always preferred artists who let the Gospel flow out naturally through their otherwise boring, average lives than people who wear it overtly through a cool brand.

But I also need to keep trying cause I know how influential those guys are with my peers.

My parents didn’t really listen to CCM until the early 00’s, so they were a bit late to a lot of that. Then it was just straight worship music or like 2 Wow cds.

But I definitely listened to a lot of Carmen and DC Talk at the Christian school I went to.

Just preordered the Brian Fallon (gaslight anthem) hymn album. It’s a really solid track listing that reminds me of growing up in the church. Plus I’m a huge fan of his work. Not sure if it technically counts as “Christian music” but it is an album of hymns.

If this is a repost, I apologize.

    track listing:
    1. “The Virgin Mary Had One Son”
    2. “Amazing Grace”
    3. “O Holy Night”
    4. “Nearer, My God, to Thee”
    5. “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms”
    6. “The First Noel”
    7. “Sweet Hour of Prayer”
    8. “Angels We Have Heard on High”
    9. “Silent Night”
    10. “The Blessing”

Yeah they were great! We basically listened to them and U2 in my house.

Still have fond memories singing along to Tree63 in the car with the whole fam!

My record just came out! Spotify and Bandcamp link (with lyrics) below. Would be honored if anyone gave it a listen amongst all the awesome stuff releasing today!

Also @Chase Tremaine laid down some awesome guitar licks on “Strange Roads”... So there’s that too.

Never really got into their old albums much, but everything from this new one has been fantastic.

  15. I swear I'm not biased (even though I'm on this album briefly). Legitimate contender for the best Christian album of the year.

I haven’t been in “evangelical Christianity” since 2009 and attend a very liberal Mennonite church. Sometimes it feels like we’re in our weird little liberal bubble. But I still ache for those who feel conflicted in other churches and what some of them are doing.

I was talking about this with my wife last night. It might be time for a new Reformation. I just don't identify at all with the modern American Church. It doesn't look anything like the Gospels. It's baffling.

Yesterday at our church one of the elders taught since the main pastor was out of town. Three times he mentioned how crazy some of the laws being passed by other states are (we're in Florida), stating that the wasn't the norm ten years ago.

I wonder what kind of laws he was referring to hmmmmm

Check out some Anabaptist churches. I’ve really appreciated the mindset and theology behind it. And it feels more rooted properly.

I definitely identify most with Anabaptists. The church I used to attend was vaguely Anabaptist (they called it Anabaptish), but I can only do online services now after moving away. I did attend a Mennonite service locally, but of course it was the same week that their lead pastor was leaving. Will probably check them out again when I feel safe going places indoors.

This means a ton. Thank you so much. The production is all Asher Peterson (son of Andrew Peterson) so I can't take the credit for that part of it. Got majorly blessed by an awesome producer who took a chance on my songs.

  24. Hey, just wanted to drop in and say I've listened to this album several times and it's really beautiful. Very well done!

Thank you so much. Seriously. Humbling to think someone would listen several times especially as it's over an hour long. Haha. That means so much.
