Drinking a Lizard King right now. Perhaps it's the cold I have but there's something about it that keeps this from being "holy shit that's amazing" for me.

I live in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. I love beer bars but I really love going to places that brew their own.
3 Breweries opened here in the last 2 years or so...Insurrection Ale Works (awesome), Hitchhiker (pretty good), and Spoon Wood (they do a lot and the quality is kind of all over the place).
There are at least 3 more slated to open his year. Helicon in Oakdale (about 10 minutes from my house), Rusty Gold, and Mindful brewing. None of these are more than 20 minutes from my home. It is a very exciting time.

living in the greater boston area is really awesome for local brewery visitation reasons/being able to buy awesome beers from the grocery store like it's nothing (I've been here since June), tonight I had Mo from Maine Beer Company (American Pale Ale 6%). I'm usually not super into pale ale's because I shy away from hoppy/bitter beers but the sweet citrus notes in this were awesome while still having that hop flavor

My sister in law used to live up there. I visited Harpoon and Sam Adams a few times when I visited up there. Sunset Bar and Tap was a super cool place to check out.

I'm rgarner11 on Untappd if anyone wants to add me!

  6. I'm still in the honeymoon phase trying all kinds of new beers at one of our local bars. Tried an Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout and earlier this week and loved it.

I think it's about time I join something like Untappd.

Old Rasputin is fantastic. I think it's one of the best Russian Imperial Stouts given its price and availability

Well I guess I'll jump in as a beer fan. I live in NC where we are having a crazy beer boom and I was happy to see Wicked Weed mentioned which is a dope spot (but unfortunately has become like a touristy, crowded place) and also enjoy Ponysaurus out of Durham and actually had dinner tonight at a brewery with great pizza and experimental beers. Went for a Horchata stout which was... interesting

I've been really interested in trying something from this brewery. They seem to do quite a bit of interesting stuff with Berliener Weisse (which I love). How is their stuff?

Dragon's Milk is year round out here in the midwest. Pretty easy to get even at my local grocery store.

I need to branch out from ipas. I have been trying to get into stouts recently. There is a store by my house has a pretty good selection of craft brews. I'll probably pick up a four pack of Founders breakfast stout on my way home from work as I have heard lots of good things.

I just started using untapped if anyone wants to add me coshowfosho.

It is definitely year round. Fairly common beer actually.
I know everyone is over the moon about KBS but I find it too overwhelmingly boozy and I actually think it has a bit of a soy sauce smell and quality. I prefer the regular Founders Breakfast Stout actually.

I agree with you about KBS. It's a solid beer but it's nothing worth spending a lot of time seeking out. There are a couple local BA stouts locally that I like better.

That's a great beer. We have it on Nitro at my work fairly regularly.
    Agreed.
I could talk for days about Clown Shoes. Luchador is phenomenal. We have a keg of Amandine Exorcism on tap right now which is a 12% imperial stout in an almond-liqueur-infused bourbon barrel and it's one of the less-boozy 12%-er's I've ever had. Drinks like it's 8%. Love it. We have the largest Clown Shoes account in Michigan at my work, so anything that releases and gets to the midwest basically gets into my hands. I feel like they're an underrated brewery because I never see them talked about much but they're so good across the board: Galactica IPA is really good; Space Cake is a great DIPA; Blaecorn Unidragon is a wonderfully smoky stout; anything they put in barrels -- the aforementioned beer, The Ballad of Minnie Quay which was a MI-only release last year, Crasher In The Rye, etc etc -- are all dynamite.
I personally enjoy Founders Imperial Stout more than anything else that they make which isn't CBS. And to be honest, part of CBS' charm is that it's sporadic releases so I never over-indulge on that incredible sweetness.
