My girlfriend isn't that big on romance and she despises valentine's day. I struggle to find a romantic side at all. Even an affectionate side is just polar opposite of how I want things to be and that puts a strain on our relationship. At times it pops up but mostly we ignore it, but I feel guilty about it all the time.

Date last week went really well and we are meeting up again on Thursday but fuck I just feel like we have nothing to text about. I think we just need to get to know one another a little better but I draw total blanks when trying to like have a conversation over the phone :l

Think I've found someone I could finally be with, only problem is they are 1200 miles away.

 

I probably put way too much importance on music taste when it comes to dating. If someone likes Polar Bear Club or Make Do And Mend, I start looking at rings.

 

I used to be that way, but then I tried talking to some girls at a glassjaw show and they were utterly fake. Soo I've learned to be a lot more flexible with that. That said, it would be awesome to date someone who has similar musical tastes since most of my friends aren't really into Animal Collective or Brand New.

 

I've said it before but I like to have different taste. My ex would make fun of my music and I thought his was terrible, but at least when we broke up I just associated those terrible bands with him and not any bands I like. Tbh as long as they're willing to be a good sport and not be a jerk about it or come to a show with me we don't have to have similar taste.

 

People's taste change over time as well. When my wife and I first met (8 years ago) she pretty much only listened to metal and I pretty much only listened to indie (metal and indie are both used in a broad sense here). Since then our tastes have both changes. Actually expanded is a better word. Now we love a lot of the same stuff, I'm huge into rap which I wasn't really into outside of Kanye when we met, and now her favorite music is K-Pop, which she didn't even know existed back then.

So I usually tell people not to really worry about that thing. And like Kiana said, as long as you're not condescending towards your partner because of their taste, whatevs.

Tbh, I don't even really know what kind of music my wife likes, she just sort of listens to whatever. I don't really even think she cares about music.

There are very few interests her and I share, and I think it's better that way.
