I started watching CR last night (first time since it came out), and I'm not crazy about it.

Also, I don't know if this belongs in the Unpopular Opinion thread or not, but MI > Bond.

I feel like Matt and Matt did not pay attention because they are missing some obvious things that are explained.

Hard to compare given the sample sizes of both franchises tbh. Bond has had way more chances to miss, and the one time M:I missed it missed hard.

Even if you take the best 6 Bonds, I'd still say MI >

Idk about that either. Skyfall vs. M:I Fallout is a tough call for me. Would depend on the day you asked me tbh. Regardless they're two of the best action movies of the 2010s easily.

  6. I just like both franchises like a schmuck.

I love both franchises but if I had to get rid of one it’d be MI in a heartbeat.

I also think M:I and Bond are trying to do two different things despite both ostensibly being espionage action franchises. And I love both franchises to be clear.

Yeah see I think I may come down on this side as well but it wouldn't be in a heartbeat.

I think the thing that would make me pick Bond over M:I is that we already know the Bond franchise can survive if you replace the lead actor. Because for Bond the character and the world is bigger and more important than any one actor. The series is malleable and adaptable and can take a new shape based around whoever you cast in the lead role. What will happen to M:I when Cruise can't do them anymore?

I love MI but James Bond movies are comfort food to me. I’ve been watching them as long as I can remember.

  11. Fallout is a perfect action thriller and I'd take it over any bond movie probably. But they're both such good franchises.

Fallout was a perfect movie, though.

James Bond is about a character, however cartoonish. Ethan Hunt might as well be named Tom Cruise. There is no Mission Impossible franchise outside tom cruise running good and doing stunts.

James Bond is perenially interesting as a mirror of social attitudes about masculinity, empire, consumerism n shit, MI is just like Tom Cruise’s intense perfection with nothing behind the eyes. Which i guess is pretty sick too

  14. Counterpoint: The Mission: Impossible TV show was also good and was a thing that existed.

Fun fact: I read on TV Tropes that a number of fans of the original series hate at least the first Mission: Impossible movie for what they did to Phelps. The cast of the TV show especially hates it.

MI tv show is cool but I haven’t watched it in years.

I watched a few episodes of The Avengers in advance of No Time To Die, which I thought held up really well. It’s such a breezy, stylish, mischevious show.

And I’ve been wanting to revisit The Saint but I keep watching Roger Moore bond movies instead

  18. Another movie I adored in middle school.

    I doubt that holds up.

    Almost certainly not.

The one I wanna watch is the 60’s show with Roger Moore. Which also likely won’t be very good.

Rami Malek goofs his way into an Oscar and will now spend the next 10 years being in and ruining otherwise decent projects
