I work for local government in a small-medium sized town. It paints a great picture of modern life in the UK, as we deal with people from every social class & race, as wide a range as homeless people looking for housing, to people with 'sir' in their title dropping £500,000+ on planning developments.

    Everybody is a fucking idiot...

Did 3 to 4 years in retail so I def. know how it can be lol - my current job's idiots are worse, but what they're complaining about matters more than material goods I was selling in that previous job so it balances out I guess. Telesales has been my worst job overall though.

So you moved from one to another? Why torture yourself like that? Haha

not quite - left retail to go to university, came back & was unemployed for 6 months, got depressed, got the telesales job, worst job ever, made redundant, unemployed another 6 months, got depressed again with vivid suicidal thoughts, then got the job I'm in now which at the very least gave me something to do. Next step.........profit?

Edit: LOL, my fucking life... :crylaugh::panda:

16: Worked at a local family fun park as an attendant. Driving range, go karts, bumper boats, all that kind of stuff. A bunch of my friends got jobs there too so it was pretty much a constant shit show haha. The shenanigans were never ending. Wanna say I worked there for about 4 months or so.

16-20: Worked summers as a lifeguard, a little bit in the off season too. Also taught swim lessons, classes anywhere from infants to 10 year olds.

16...maybe early 17: Tropical Smoothie Cafe. Only job I've ever been fired from. The franchisees were extremely religious and I think they sorta just hated me but needed staffing and once they got enough people hired they found a reason to cut me. Maybe 2-3 months long.

17: Toys 'R' Us, for the holiday season only. This was also the holiday season the Xbox 360 came out so it was a pretty crazy few months.

18: Cold Stone as a shift manager. I liked that job because I worked alone like 95% of the time. I'd always play the music just a little too loud and somehow did not gain a bunch of weight eating all the of the ice cream in sight.

18-19: Merch guy/Guitar tech. A band I was in at the time had just broken up and another band that I was longtime friends with/played a lot of shows with offered to take me out. Pretty much stayed in the states with the exception of a few dates in Canada. Lots of fun tours though and of course memories I'll never forget. This went on for the better part of a year.

19: Stopped touring to try and focus on my own music and wound up getting a job at this little grocery store that was actually a project of Walmart. It was their effort to create a "friendly neighborhood grocery store", it was called Marketside. It was mostly fucking awful but at that age you just kinda roll with the punches. Upside is that it's where I met my girlfriend, we've been together for 8 years. I worked there about 10 months and finally walked. Tried to give a two weeks notice but the manager was an asshole so I decided he wasn't worth the attempt at decency. Girlfriend quit about three months after me.

20-23: Guitar Center. Accessories department. Two of my best friends were moving to San Diego for no reason and my girlfriend and I decided to go with. I needed a job before I moved there and I literally turned in my application online, called the store to see if they received it, and then told them I'd be there the next day for an interview (a six hour drive for me). Definitely one of the more ballsy things I've done in my life -- I showed up and they had no idea what to do with me haha. I think they basically interviewed because they felt they couldn't turn me away. Anyway, I got the job. Eventually moved back to Arizona, so I transferred stores. GC had really great ups and a few shitty downs, some great years but I'm glad they finally pissed me off enough to make me leave.

23-now: Got a job as a bank teller, did that for a year and then was promoted to a personal banker position. Did that for two years. Liked the people I worked with but the job itself was soul-sucking. 7 months ago I left the branch for a position in the bank's financial crimes department, where I am now. I basically assess fraud claims and determine whether we are paying the customer or not. First job where I have zero customer interaction, which is crazy to me. I don't think it's where I want to be forever but I make decent money and my job is interesting. So we'll see.

Damn, sorry for the long post haha. Totally just took a trip down memory lane at all of your expenses!

Death To Apathy/Get Busy or Get Left Behind

I'm a producer at a web development agency. I make sure everything is running smoothly, and am allowed to work from anywhere (helloooooo tour!) so long as nothing falls through the cracks. I love my job, and am grateful every single day that my boss hasn't fired me.

Related - I've noticed a rising trend of musicians working in digital (ex. coding, web development, social media coordination, etc) to accommodate touring/have a steady stream of income. Anyone else have any experience/perspective on this?

14-16: local pizza place, making pizza
16-21: associate/manager at Five Below (easily the worst retail chain I worked for, -10000/10, would not recommend, no idea why I kept this job so long)
18: PR for my university (in retrospect, sad I didn't stay here, but university PR is horrifically boring to me)
19: Cashier at Charlotte Russe and Journey's
    20: Waitressing at Johnny Rockets
20-21: Cashier & Ops specialist at Victoria's Secret (easily the best retail chain I worked for)
21: Tutor & TA for my university's Math/Computer Science dept
21-23: Adjunct professor for the university's CS department (don't ask me how the hell I got away with teaching college classes without a Master's...I have no idea)
21-now: Web app engineering for a contracting company, and now full-time for one of its former clients

For some reason I felt like I had to have a job AT ALL TIMES while in high school and college and man, I'm glad I built a good work ethic and stuff, but I wish I had taken some time to do more creative things than stocking shelves.

During the day I go to school so I can get an English degree and teach in Japan. At night I manage a movie theatre built in the 1930's. Before this I've done a bunch of different jobs including McDonalds, Nob Hill (grocery store), a barista, and teaching little kids how to play soccer.

Just started a new full-time job as a pharmacy technician at a hospital pharmacy after months of looking for work! It's a state government job, so decent pay and good benefits. It doesn't pertain to my studies or anything, but at least it's something!
