This is giving my confidence to start over again. I played last year and got pretty far but never felt like I had a good hang of it.

Which difficulty setting are you doing?

The PS4 to PC was fine, but I think it's all the controls and camera movements and menus that made me lose interest after a break. I tried to get back to it on PC and was doing nothing but familiarizing myself with key bindings. Maybe I just needed to stick with it and it would have clicked.

My wife and I played through divinity together over the course of a year and a half, taking a couple pretty large breaks, one due to our son being born. Never had a problem getting back into it though. Found that the journal does a pretty good job of keeping track of everything.

Story mode aka the easiest haha I plan on stepping it up and doing a lone wolf build after I’m done though

I personally play every game on easy mode nowadays unless I absolutely have to do otherwise.

Like for example, Timespinner, I'm playing on normal mode because if I don't, I won't get any achievements for beating the bosses.

But I'm all about the adventure and not the challenge. I play games to relax, not to stress myself out. That's my take anyway.

The one thing that I do find annoying is I can literally spend 45 minutes to an hour just doing inventory, gear, and skill management for each of my party members and then get everything all squared away and then within 20-30 minutes of adventuring my bags are full of shit again and I have to clean it all up and do it all over lol. I’m very anal about making sure each of my party members is wearing the best possible gear and weapons I have available, plus setting up their skill bars to be ideal and with so much flexibility in who can learn what but restrictions on how many skills can be active due to the memory stat it can be a lot to deal with. but it’s all worth it when you go out into battle and fall in love with a build you’ve got going for someone. since I’m playing on such a low difficulty setting I’m just winging everybody’s builds and fucking around a lot instead of sticking to a strict build like you might want to on tactician mode

I’m finding myself very interested in this genre of throwback CRPG tho and want to play pillars of eternity next, and then I’ve got my eye on tyranny and pathfinder down the line as well. I did snag baldurs gate’s 1 and 2 when they were on sale recently although with how dated those games are compared to the modern games that take influence from it I’ve heard it’s hard to go back and get into the old ones. I hope Larian finishes Baldurs Gate 3 sometime next year but I don’t think it’ll be ready til 2023. It’s looking fucking awesome though and depending on how the development cycle shakes out I might buy into early access at some point

Shout out to @Wharf Rat for getting me into this kind of stuff though. He’s the one who told me about divinity late last year/early this year and has told me all about pathfinder and shit too.

  11. those kind of games definitely have a learning curve just for controls and menus, plus the entire combat system if you aren't experienced with dnd or games similarly based on dice rolls. I've played enough of them now that if i take a break its okay, but it still takes me 2 or 3 false starts before i really get into a new playthrough

  12. Talking about learning menus and keybindings and mechanics though, nothing is worse to learn than Paradox games. Try to wrap your head around this:

Yeah it takes me a few false starts to get going with any game really haha but a false start for a game like that can mean 5-10 hours down the drain lol. I’m starting to get familiar enough to feel like I could jump back in after a break and be okay but I don’t want to take a break, like I said I’m hooked now

I’ve been trying to get into Europa for so long and even after one three hour session with my brother explaining shit to me I still have no idea how to get started, it’s gonna take a few more times with him guiding me to wrap my head around it all

the only problem with getting sucked into dos 2 now is that hades is on hold, and forza horizon 5 is coming out so soon I’m gonna have to make time for that as well lol. But hades at least is the type of game I can pick up whenever and not feel completely lost and powerless, and I think I’m on attempt 22-25 somewhere in that range so I know I’m approaching my first clear. gonna go for the 10 clears to see the real credits

    Player's Log:

So I "finished" Timespinner, which is to say by finished, I got the worst ending, because there are achievements for getting each ending. The good news is, the way the game is designed, I can now load my save from before I got the worst ending and get one of the two good endings, which will require fighting more bosses and more map exploration.

The bad news is once I get one of the two good endings, I can only get the other one by playing the game again from the beginning. Fortunately, there is a New Game+ mode which will let me keep my stats and most of my power-ups, so it should be faster and easier the second time around.

Even with that, I don't think I'm 100%ing this, since one achievement is for Nightmare mode, and no. Just no.

As for the game itself, it's been pretty enjoyable. The time mechanics are used a lot less than I expected, but still pop up in odd moments here and there. Mostly it's a pretty standard Metroidvania. The plot is fairly interesting timey-wimey, "war is complicated" kind of stuff. A bit cliché, but not offputtingly so.

Finally played the new Pro Evolution Soccer game, eFootball. I've been a Winning 11/PES fan for years (I think back to original XBOX days) and absolutely loved last year's update version. It was "free" on Gamepass, and they updated teams as well as for the Eurocup.

This thing they came out with now though, what in the actual fuck? I've never played a game that was completely destroyed and ruined. So incredibly frustrated.
