I loved it but it definitely wasn't great. If you're into MTV drama you'll love it

I couldn’t deal with the after-school-special-ness of it all, but it has its place.

i will forever say that Blair Witch 2 was/is pretty great and ahead of its time as far as being weirdly meta and poking fun at itself and people’s reactions to things. I know the director hates the version the studio released (which also makes for a great director commentary listen) but I love that it wasn’t just three more people in the woods and loved that it brought in the real world reaction to the film to build its world.

Video Violence 2 right now. Love the music so much. Man, I expected these to be a bit more campy than they are mean spirited, but I’m still enjoying myself

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I thought it was a really interesting take.

it also has one of my favorite lines / deliveries / scenes ever with, “she’s the witch, man!” that friends and I have quoted at least once a week for almost two decades lol

I feel this so much. I would just ignore the inserts back when but now, I could’ve had a backup collection had I used those codes.

What’s wrong with New Nightmare? That’s a solid meta horror movie and I’ll die on that hill for it.

  14. I love Video Violence 2 even more than the first one haha. The music is SO good.
I think most people would haha I appreciate the originality, but it's bogged down by awful child acting, Freddy's unfortunate redesign, and like, two on-screen kills in just under two hours. It just winds up being a slog for me and not what I want in a Nightmare film. I think meta-angle really worked best when Wes did it with a brand new franchise (Scream).

TV Tropes posits that despite a similar meta premise, people may favor Scream over New Nightmare because Scream was about movie fans and New Nightmare about movie producers. If a movie producer dies in the woods, does anyone care? The answer is apparently no.

Saw Scream in theaters today for the 25th anniversary. no new trailer (apparently it was leaked earlier in spanish?) here’s the thing, what Craven did with this movie is unparalleled, what a pleasant little thing

  17. Man, I've always been a staunch defender of Halloween 2, but 4 is really, really solid as well. Just a great trilogy of films, both of those sequels deserve more love. It's a shame 5 turned out the way it did.

I feel like without NN, we wouldn’t have gotten Scream imo. They both are these meta movies deconstructing the slasher genre but NN has the edge for me personally due to the figurative and literal idea of Freddie haunting Heather, Robert, and Wes, as all three of them lived in the shadow of the original until Wes was able to break out of that with Scream. I really like that angle and Scream to me was Wes realizing he had a good thing going with the meta idea so why not take it a step further and just poke fun at the genre while making a really good slasher at the same time. Basically what I’m saying is that NN walked so Scream could run and I think it deserves a little credit for that imo.

I watched Werewolves Within today. It was kinda fun.

There were two really good ones in the past year.

Speaking of Wes Craven and werewolves I watched Cursed recently and had a lot of fun. I think it would've been a lot bigger if it came out 5-6 years earlier.

  25. Decided to rank the big three. Hard to decide on a fourth to compete my Mount Slashmore, but between Leatherface and Chucky, I think Chucky takes it based on sequel consistency and recognition alone.
