this is gorgeous. love the callbacks. love the enders. this is the best band.

 

This is so good. The last two songs are incredible.

 

For someone who hasn't delved deep in to their previous albums, would anyone be kind enough to give a guick guide to these callbacks for posterity?

 

The biggest ones are in Fewer Afraid, it re-uses some lyrics from their previous closers Getting Sodas and Mount Hum which gives it a real grand finale type feeling. There are a couple other smaller lyrical references in other spots on the album too.

 

one more is in "Died in the Prison of the Holy Office," "away with god away with love / our hands are tired and stepped on" is from "Katamari Duquette"

 

Just heard Fewer Afraid finally. Epic. It’s almost as long as my daily commute which is wild

 

This record keeps blowing me away! This is some of the best music, ever.

 

@VanMastaIteHab and @jordalsh mentioned a few of the callbacks already. Another one would be the spoken word poet, Chris Zizzamia, was featured at the beginning of Fewer Afraid. TWIABP and Chris did a collaboration ep in 2014 called Between Bodies

Infinite Josh makes me really nostalgic for the times with my college band when we would jam a riff endlessly. I love that they captured that kind of magic in a recorded song, because I feel like everyone who's ever played music with friends has had a similar moment.

About ten listens in of Illusory Walls now and can safely say this is my AOTY. I can't see anything else topping it.

Pretty sure Infinite Josh is the perfect “fall vibes” song

 

Just listened to this for the first time and goddamn what an album.

 

First listen I enjoyed it, but it didn’t wow me. But last night I had infinite Josh on as I was walking the dog at sunset. The wind was blowing, leaves flying everywhere, and the crescendo hit and it clicked with me. Simply amazing.

The more I listen, that last few minutes of Holy Office really competing for my favorite bit of this album
