Take arms, it'll all blow over Prestigious

Man what went down in that meeting? I'm sure they walked in with the idea of suspending her, and shit must have sprawled out.

Grant Wahl said they flew out to Seattle to meet her so they must have already decided to do it. Someone suggested that beforehand they may have asked her to publicly apologize and she may have refused, but even if true, this is way too harsh of a punishment.

This is still making me mad, they overlooked the other stuff before when it was convenient for them and they were trying to win a world cup but now that's done with these comments are enough to be the last straw to fire her? I've never been a big fan of hers but this is bullshit.

Have any of her teammates reacted yet on Twitter? I've not seen anything.

Nope and I doubt they will for a while. They're going to be hounded about it in post-game press conferences this weekend unless they ask to let other players be available to the media instead of themselves.

Comments from teammates so far. Tobin Heath and Lindsey Horan declined to comment.

Alex (she had already public said that she didn't agree with Hope's comments so that's not new):
    Meghan Klingenberg and Allie Long:

It's worth noting that Heath, Horan, Kling, and Long are all on the same NWSL team. Their's and Alex's are easily the teams with biggest fanbases so they get a little more media coverage. There will probably be more to come from other players this weekend after all the games.

Hope took a personal leave from the Seattle Reign. No word on if it was just for this weekend or longer.

This whole situation makes me sad. Although I've never really cared for her, she does not deserve to have her career ended like this. Her future in soccer is really looking uncertain right now.

As terrible as it would be for her to not go out on her terms (most probably after the 2019 World Cup), I'm certain one of Fox Soccer or ESPN would take a chance on her. She'd basically become the Alexi Lalas-type commentator of the Women's game. Which I'd argue is necessary in a few ways. Abby got her color commentating gig the same week she got a DUI, so it's not like Hope's issues would stop one of the major networks from offering if she showed interest.

I could see that happening, but she deserves some kind of send off for the NT and I don't know if that's going to happen now.

Agreed. First goalkeeper to ever record 100 shut outs, 150 wins, and 200+ appearances for any international squad deserves something special. Hell, halve (half?) those stats and she'd still deserve it.

In other news, why did Jessie Fleming decide to go to college? I can't imagine she'll go all four years. And I wonder if Pugh is going to change her mind? She's already pushed her enrollment to the spring so she to play U-20 World Cup.

I think until the women's game catches up in pay, college may be a really smart move for players. Wouldn't be surprised to see that addressed during the CBA coming up in the spring.

Both her and Mal are going to be allocated and get top salaries in the league and will surely get endorsements. But yeah it may not happen until they can improve on that.

All those people dragging Carli must feel pretty dumb considering her team approved everything... :frog: :tea:

Quote: "Actually, as we all know, our schedules are not drawn out a year ahead of time," Lloyd said. "The NWSL (schedule), I believe, came out in late February. So I have had a personal commitment that really is none of anyone's business, that was scheduled in the beginning of the year. Obviously, you knew the Olympic schedule window. That's that.

"It has been preapproved, went through all the channels. I've sacrificed my life to the game of soccer. I've never missed a game, I think except for one time in 2013 for something personal. So I have sacrificed just like everybody else on this field. I am getting married this year. It is impossible to plan your life. There is really nothing else to talk about other than I am here and ready to go, ready to finish out five more games."

    I'm so sad about this.

At least she's still going to play in the NWSL. I was thinking about going to the Orlando game against her club but now I definitely have to go.

So it's looking like LAFC will probably have an expansion team with the NWSL in 2018. I'm really glad it's them since Mia Hamm will more than likely be involved with the ownership of that team as well as LAFC.

So far the teams that are partnered with MLS teams (Portland, Orlando, and Houston) are the ones doing the best attendance-wise so I hope future expansion teams continue to do this. Vancouver and Real Salt Like have been rumored to be interested as well.

I don't care if Rapinoe wants to kneel during the anthem while playing club ball. Whatever floats her boat, but hopefully she doesn't do that when she's playing a game for the "UNITED STATES NATIONAL" team. If she doesn't want to stand for the anthem during a USWNT game then she can represent our country on the bench.

As long as she plays well no one should cate what she does during the anthem. I support the players over some song any day of the week.

Rapinoe said she will kneel during the anthem at the next friendly if she'selected.

She will be by the way; US Soccer released an interview with Ellis saying the roster for first two friendlies will be made up of those on the Olympic roster.

If she's starting and kneels, shit will get ugly fast. For her sake, I honestly hope she doesn't start and can kneel by the bench. It would be the first protest during an anthem during international soccer ever, male or female.

National team soccer always does an interesting, sometimes pushing uncomfortable, job blurring the line between the fervent nationalists and the soccer fans who just wanna root for their national team.

I think most of the nationalists probably stick with the USMNT though, so hopefully Rapinoe would mostly get support from the fans. (still haven't seen AO speak out in support of her yet though which bums me out)

Lalas' take on it in the pre-game for the USMNT was pretty solid, I thought.
