Like, literally the one plus for the Red Sox defense is throwing runners out. They suck at EVERYTHING else defensively. Why challenge their one plus trait when you can just enjoy one of the most pressure packed and beneficial situations in your sport (2nd and 3rd with less than two outs)

 

As soon as he saw that ball bounce off the wall, he should have put his arms up. If it deflects away from the back-up outfielder, then sure, send him but that was shit decision as soon as the ball was thrown to the relay.
