Actually with Thrice albums more than anyone it takes me a while to digest them and finally see how I feel about them in the discography.

like i said i absolutely refuse to try and put this anywhere in this discog but obviously i can rank the rest of their discog pretty easily given how often i listen to them and how long ive been listening to them for now. so its no big deal to rank their discog, i just dont understand why you would try and slot this record in there somewhere just two days after its release. next people are gonna talk about it in the context of album of the year lists, as though an album that isnt on an eoty rank has little to no worth.

They are just so intricate and layered. The lyrics have depth. When I refer to them as an album band it’s because I feel they typically try to achieve something with each track on an album. (even if not every track is perfect in my eyes).

The only way I can “rank it” is to say it feels of the Alchemy, Beggars, and Major/minor era, and that’s a tremendously good thing.

Beggars is my favorite album of all time, and this stands alongside it nicely. Surety of faith to deconstructed rebuilding.

theres a difference between noting sonic similarities between this and their past work, and then talking about how much you like this compared to said past work as though it really means anything to anyone else when most of us havent even listened to the album more than 5 times yet (personally ive heard it,,,,, thrice times so far)

This is a damn fine cup of coffee.

Has anybody else noticed that the very first thing we heard from this record was the last 10 seconds of the record?

The effect at the beginning of "Paper Tigers" sounds very similar to the effect at the end of "Dandelion Wine."

finally listened through this morning and was pleasantly surprised. that was the most enjoyable first listen I’ve had with any record in a real long time. so much good stuff but Northern Lights hooked me.

agree with what others have said about it having elements of TAI and Beggars but it feels super well rounded at this point in their very deep catalog.

so glad you mentioned this. when they’re on, they’re ON. one of the most interesting rhythm sections in rock music currently, IMO.

I think I've decided on my favorite vocal moment: "There’s a whetted axe with a weathered handle, and the weight of it is dear to me."

That line has been stuck in my head all morning. Dustin sounds so good on that song.

I finally have the chance to listen to this on my good headphones. Color of the Sky, which was already an early favorite, just sounds sublime.

Very happy to say this album rules and is everything I hoped it would be. For context, Thrice is my favorite band and has been since Artist. My first tattoo was Thrice-inspired. This band means a ton to me.

First listen was slightly rough for me. I found myself not really liking a lot of choices they made with their instrumentation and transitions. Something just felt kind of rough and a little loose to me. Second listen, I found something in every song that I loved even though some of the initial head-scratchers were still there. All subsequent listens I've enjoyed from start to finish and every song makes me be like, "This song rules, what's the name?" I don't think there's a song I don't like at this point.

As an aside, the intro to Still Life is some of the most beautiful music I think Thrice has made.

Never really gave this band a real chance before so I’m diving into every album. What is the worst album if y’all had to pick?

Identity Crisis is likely the worst of their more "straightforward" material. Once they released Vehissu, they got a little more "weird", so I kind of mark that album as a bit of a new chapter. Of the second chapter, my personal least favorite is Palms, but I think each of their albums has something great to offer.

Stoked to see my Manchester Orchestra show in Orlando will require proof of vaccination or negative Covid test, but still super worried about the Thrice show one week before at Hard Rock Live. Anyone in here got insights on what that venue is doing for mitigation?

I know my October 1st show is technically before the Live Nation rule that goes into effect on the 4th.

feel like people who dig this should give the new version of the black foxxes album that just dropped a shot. similar vibes and ethos imo
