I find it hard to call anything here a clunker

 

I just hearted “The Dreamer” and feel personality attacked.

 

I hearted the whole album.

There’s no Wake Up or Hold Up a Light on here, and just for that, it’s the best thing they’ve done post-hiatus for me.

 

Truth be told, I really like the music. Even so, the vocals in the first verse are just so bad that they ruin it for me. Sort of a "Hold Up a Light" thing going on.

 

Good grief, one more hour.

Just started the album. The Color of the Sky is great so far. Has me very excited to hear the rest of the album :)

 

will this top beggars for me? give it time...

 

ok so two listens so far. I love it, but I love everything they do so that might not be saying much.

Might be their most cohesive full album in a very long time, though I am not sure I like any individual song as much as Hurricane, Just Breathe or Beyond the Pines. Need to give it some more time to sit.

Still Life and Dandelion Wine might be my faves so far. I agree with the consensus that The Dreamer is the weakest track, but I still like it.

 

Only half way through but feeling this will topple Palms for me.

Biggest reasons being the production, and I just feeling like they are really trying some different things that they did successfully before in previous albums

 

Buried in the Sun is really cool! Feels different for Thrice but so Thrice at the same time ha I don't know but I am really liking it.

Edit#1 Wow Northern Lights....

Edit#2 The Dreamer is different but I am feeling it so far. Nothing is missing on this album so far I am really happy with this one.

Edit#3 Just finished my first play through. Sooo good! Can't really articulate my feelings yet definitely need more listens. But this feels like exactly what I wanted from Thrice. I love the experimentation while still holding on to what makes them them.

 

I avoided all singles and news about the album and went in completely blind.

Thrice is my favorite band and i will say that I think Palms is the weakest album they’ve ever done. It didn’t feel cohesive - I think it needed a lot more refining and Deeper Wells EP should have been incorporated to make it a more well rounded album, at minimum. Also the lyrics were average at best.

After a couple listens I’m happy to say this album is better than Palms. They’ve taken the few good ideas on Palms, refined the sound, and incorporated what worked on past albums - most notably Beggars…and have created a solid record that I think will grow on me even more over time.

There are 4 stand out songs IMO.

Buried in the Sun is the song OG Thrice fans have been waiting for since Death From Above, Talking Through Glass, The Fire EP, etc… HEAVY THRICE is so good when Kensrue lets out those angry
screams! I got goosebumps.

The Color of the Sky, Summer Set Fire to the Rain, and Robot Soft Exorcism are some of the best songs they’ve written in awhile, IMO.

The lyrics on this album feel so much deeper and well crafted, maybe the best written since Beggars.

The big picture is I think this will be on par with TBEITBN or perhaps surpass it, but the “magic” Thrice had in their early music, especially from Beggars all the way back to IoS seems a bit fleeting, but maybe I’m just getting older.

Overall, I enjoy the record but it doesn’t blow me away. It could definitely grow more on me after further listens.

Also, has Horizons / West been officially confirmed? I’ve literally blocked Thrice on all social media for the last 2 months, lol.

Hell yeah! I love that they let him do it - they usually have Dustin do all the back up vocals. I love Ed screaming live for The Earth Will Shake

 

Yes, unless I’m forced to watch them during previews at a movie theater. I like to go in as fresh as possible, patience is always rewarded IMO.

 

Ed moves like swing sets.

 

The Dreamer chorus is a bit off putting for some reason IMO, everything else about the song is good af tho.
