Honestly, I’m having a much more immediate first listen to this than Golden Hour, it takes the psychedelic aspects of GH and dabs a teeny tiny bit of pop on it

Yeah - Star-crossed is much moreso the side-b to golden hour than the pop-crossover they made it to be. She stays in a similar sonic landscape and storyline, just at two different points in time, over two completely different characters/stories

Breadwinner is the one for me, perfect song. I’m a huge fan of High Horse, so I’m stoked there’s like, 6 tracks going for that sound on here.

Hookup Scene is the “you thing you wanna be out here, but you don’t” Twitter thread in song form.

Have not been into it very much at all so far. Someone earlier in the thread said it’s more of an ongoing mood piece, which is what I’ve thought too, and it’s been tough for me to differentiate between songs while listening. It all blends a little too much.

NOW, I’ve only listened to it in the car and on a Bluetooth speaker, and I find that when I listen on headphones ill probably catch all of the layers some of you are talking about that don’t shine through. I’m hoping that will turn around my opinion some. I’ve got a flight tomorrow which will give me some direct listening opportunities.

This strikes me as a bigger departure from Golden Hour than I think most of you are hearing it as. That album still really felt grounded in country to me: wide open, expansive, big explosive choruses, a lot of outsized emotion. This one feels a lot more internal and restrained, very much (as people have said) in the current downbeat pop mode.

In that sense, I guess it's not that surprising that the reaction seems very mixed. Lots of "this is boring" on Twitter, which...I just wish people would let albums percolate a bit before issuing their Takes and moving on. I think there's more to this one than is on the surface.

Is this the actually CD or fan art?

If real then a) I really like the burned CD with sharpie vibes and b) interesting to see it broken into 3 acts

watched the movie tonight, it was..... something....

the narrative was questionable, there were SO MANY quick cut offs of the song for dramatic effect. It works once or twice, but not 10+ times. it mostly only had the upbeat tracks which was nice, but good lord the album closer did not need what felt like a 10-minute solo haha. Anyway, I don't really think I would recommend it to anyone

Well that person designed the merch, so I’m guessing they wouldn’t post fan art!

Took this on a drive this morning again. I really like the album, but the sequencing in the back half leave a lot to be desired. Specifically after Breadwinner. The softer tracks like Camera Roll and Hookup Scene are good enough, but the “catchy” songs in that stretch (Easier Said, Keep Lookin’ Up, What Doesn’t Kill Me, There Is A Light) are all fine individually, but sequenced the way it is makes the album come to a grinding halt for me. Hopefully they grow.

Got my record in yesterday and spinning it this morning (great Saturday morning record). Mystery vinyl 1 is translucent red.

Side B is rightfully getting a lot of love, but damn this first half is fantastic. Overall this takes a lot of what I loved about Golden Hour and runs with it. Shawn Everett continues to be my favorite mixer and Kacey, Ian, and Daniel did wonders with the arranging/production.

If there’s anything I miss specifically from Golden Hour it’s the drums and bass. I’m not an organic sound only guy and I do enjoy the drum programming and synth bass on the record, but they tapped into something special regarding the rhythm section both production and playing wise on GH. That said there’s still plenty here to appreciate and overall I’m enjoying the vibe of this record and think the songwriting has remained high value.

Only got to listen to this once in the car with my gf so far but I really liked it. My favorite moments were the last two tracks, which seems to be a controversial take in bed (I love the flute in "There Is A Light", and I'm not sure why the aversion to music in other languages, either way great song)

The only thing I'm a little disappointed in is that there's very little country here, which is a loss for the genre, not for Kacey. All the songs are good

IMO, Cherry Blossom and Breadwinner. Comparable to High Horse as being the catchiest pop songs on the album.

Different strokes, definitely like the first half better currently, but that’s usually a sign of a good album if people’s favorites run the gamut across the board.

I will say this is more exciting on first listen than Golden Hour. Maybe not better, idk yet

This album reminds me a lot of Heavier Things. Poppy but with some experimental arrangements that defy genre.
