I was out for lunch today and heard 4 of her songs on the radio. They even played Traitor twice.

 

I mean, the reason to buy it would be if you listen to the majority of your music on vinyl and like this album and want to listen to it. But for “purity” standards…no

it's funny because Memories/Pachabel's Canon is way more egregious than anything Olivia did lol

 

well that's not even remotely the same thing haha. First off the song is public domain, so it's entirely unrelated. But second off, the band based the song off the song's melody.

If anything it's like 1 step, 3 step where Olivia wrote a song based off the New Years Day piano chords and immediately credited them because it was intentionally based off that song

 

Holy shit, Olivia gave up 50% of the writing credits for Good 4 U?!?!?! That's just absurd.

 

Am I the only one that doesn’t really see such huge similarities to warrant this?

 

Look, I don’t think paramore should be getting money, but the first time I heard Good 4 u, I immediately thought “wow this sounds a lot like Misery Business” (completely unaware that this is even a discussion)

 

There have been so many more egregious examples of one song sounding like another that most assuredly did not end in giving up writing credits. This is stupid.

 

same. First time I heard that chorus I said “hey this sounds like misery business”.

im sure there are more egregious examples, but how often is it one of if not the biggest pop song that sounds enough like another huge pop rock hit that was only released 13 years ago? Add in the age of the internet and social media and it spreads to a lot more people

My takeaway with these publishing shenanigans is that large corporations have devised clever new revenue streams that are conveniently veiled by the "is it a ripoff?" discourse.
