Feel like “One Night In Miami” would have had a chance if it was a theatrical exclusive and not released in the heat of awards season during a pandemic.

DaCosta clearly must have wanted to make a Marvel movie or she wouldn’t have signed on to do one.

 

All your favorite directors will make a Marvel movie at some point in the future. Best to just make peace with it now.

They have mostly gone after newer directors. Even someone like Zhao, who has won all sorts of awards, was hired before all of that. It is very similar to the way they hire actors too.

 

Yeah they've had a few directors I really like (Coogler, Taika) but none of my absolute favourites and I doubt theyd ever get anyone that weird.

 

I loved the way this looked. Really cool atmosphere and the whole city felt like a prison. The critic kill was one of my favorites I’ve seen in a horror movie in a while.

I do feel like this tugged on some interesting threads that it never completely explored and it honestly could have been longer.

 

If that's true I can't wait for the Robert Eggers marvel movies

 

We need a comedy director to do Hercules with Jon Gabrus.

 

Honestly a Robert Eggers horror/supernatural marvel film sounds good.

 

I've said this so many times before but I will never understand the weird opposition people have to exciting directors deciding to make a Marvel movie. The worst thing that happens in that scenario is they make a fine superhero blockbuster that rakes in cash at the box office and gives them the cache to be able to get more exciting projects made in the future after that. At best, you wind up with movies like Guardians of the Galaxy 1&2, Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, and Iron Man 3, where the director's style and talent shine through and they make something great. It's a win for the audience either way.

And, again, these directors have agency here. Nobody has a gun to their heads. If they want to take on a project knowing they'll have to work within the Marvel framework, and choose to do it anyway, that's their decision. I'm happy for DaCosta and excited to see what she does with The Marvels. Let the artists we all purport to like get paid ffs.
