Okay, so I'm not the best at these but you all killed it. So let's go.

@manoverboard365 Your songs are always some of my favorites, and this is no exception. I love your production style, it creates a really unique atmosphere. The lyrics and your vocal performance are also great. The fact you pulled this together in basically one sitting right before it was due is also insane and you deserve props for that.

@trevorshmevor Okay, I promise this is a compliment, but this song is like the dopest elevator music ever. Like, if I heard this in an elevator I wouldn't be shocked, but I would be vibin' hard in there and would never think about elevator music the same way again. I love this song. The production is great, the layering is really well done, and I love how your vocals kind of just pop in and out. Good job!

@Roman Rogowski fuck u 4 writing something this cool. stop being better than me. im gonna tell better mom. Seriously though, this is my favorite song you've ever made. The guitars work so well together, and it has the trademark Roman Rogowski atmosphere. This is also my favorite vocal performance of yours. The lyrics are also awesome. srsly stop being so gud.

@me I guess I'll do a brief blurb on mine. I wrote a record called Selfish to Love about how I needed to stop being so pessimistic about love. The first half of the record (where this is from) is really bitter, while the second half is me convincing myself that love is good. I only add all that because I feel slightly bad about how bitter the lyrics are since it's on this comp. haha I promise I'm not this depressing of a person.

@SmashRipsaw First, thank you for messaging me about doing this comp. I'm super excited to get my tape. This song is cool though. I am big on atmosphere in songs, and this song makes me feel like I am living in a dark but fun digital world. I love it. I like the instrumental too because I can either just jam out to it, or adlib awful lyrics over it. It's a blast either way.

@bobsheiskawy This song is really pretty. I love the vocalist, and she fits really well in this genre. The music and lyric combo makes me feel some sort of way too. I love when the piano comes in, and then there's that belted lyric and... what is that instrument doing the tremolo? It's on the tip of my tongue and I can't quite remember. Anyway, this song is awesome. Definitely gonna have to check out the other stuff your band's done.

@bradsonemanband this fucking SLAYS. I wanna go this hard sometime. It's so aggressive, I love the vocals on this. The guitar and drums are also great. And I just really love the production style you've adopted recently. I'm glad you're still submitting after all this time! You're the GOAT.

@genericities This definitely gives me some Hop Along vibes too. I love the guitar and drums, and your vocals, lyrics, and melody are fantastic. This is the kind of song that I could put on a loop and never really get tired of. It never starts to feel old. I'm really glad you joined in on this comp, definite highlight (even if every song on here is).

@uuu Okay, I have to thank you for the art. It's better than the art I've been making, and fits this comp perfectly. It's great! I'm glad I have you to help with that stuff now. But also fuck you because now my brain is constantly replaying "You make my insides feel like the outsides of peaches" in my head. It has happened throughout every day since I first heard it. haha Seriously though, this song is fantastic. I love the way the vocals harmonize, the instrumental is nice, and I love how you just start yelling about peaches at the end. It's beautiful.

@kelcytaylor I am now going to forever regret that I either left your wedding before you performed this, or that I was just so tired I forgot I was here for this part. Seriously hate I only got to sleep for 2 hours the night before you wedding just in general. Anyways, the lyrics are great like everything you do. The guitar sounds really nice, and your vocals also slay like always. I'm lucky I get to write with you now, especially since you're talented enough on your own to not need me. Now I just gotta write my weird vampire song this inspired. haha

@straylight93 I knew this was the closer literally the moment it started. That guitar tone is so sick, and I love the guitar parts you wrote for it. It's super dynamic, and when the drums come in it hits a whole other level. The way the song builds is just so cool. It never hits the super heavy payoff I expected the first time as it built, but that adds so much to the song. It maintains the tension and never lets go. The lyrics are awesome too. Awesome song, and a perfect closer to a perfect comp. :)

Ok so I'm not the best at articulating my thoughts, but here are some quick reactions:

@me - So cool to be the opening track on one of these comps! Had a lot of fun recording this one

@trevorshmevor - Love the chill vibe to this! Your voice remind me of someone that I can’t put my finger on. But a very relaxing tune with cool production.

@Roman Rogowski - Something about this song gives me old school Ben Gibbard vibes. Like old Death Cab meets La Dispute. Good stuff! Also the mix on this is perfect.

@Benjamin Lee - Awesome job as usual! Especially love the lyrics on this one. Love the plucking synth in the background of the chorus.

@SmashRipsaw - Holy Depeche Mode! Love the 80s vibe on this one. Flows great coming out of the song before it. Could fit perfectly as part of the Stranger Things score. Had my head bopping!

@bobsheiskawy - Your main vocalist has such a lovely voice! Is that you doing the duel vocals in the end? I love that part.

@bradsonemanband - This one goes HARD! Throw this on Spotify so I can put it on my workout mix haha. The screams from your brother are perfect. I dunno why the guitar part sometimes reminds me of Korn’s Blind. Makes me wanna jump around

@genericities - Hate to sound like a broken record, but yep I love the Hop Along vibes! Definitely a Hop Along feel with a splash of Phoebe's voice. Love it!

@uuu - I could listen to that guitar riff in the verses on repeat forever. So soothing. Love the harmonies and the "hmmhm" part.

@kelcytaylor - Everyone did an amazing job on this comp, but if I'm being bias this is definitely my favorite song. Especially now that I know the connection it has to your late father and your wedding day. Beautiful. And I get serious Taylor Swift vibes in the bridge. Harmonies are perfect too.

@straylight93 - Great choice for a closer. Love the build up, and guitars sound great. I think someone earlier made a comparison to Manchester Orchestra? Totally hear that.

I always like hearing people talk about their own music, so if anyone has stuff to say about their own songs but not necessarily time to blurb about all of them, just know you’ll have at least one interested reader

Thank you! I'm glad someone mentioned the lyrics because they're my favorite part of it. Never tried to write lyrics in that style so it was a fun experiment.

I am glad. haha I texted Roman about it and then spent the next couple of days debating whether or not I should say that because it could easily be taken badly. So, I'm glad you accept it.

 

Alright, real quick just wanted to let you guys know about future plans. I have some stuff I gotta get done, so we’re gonna take a 2 week break. When we come back, we’ll start the spoopy season with a Halloween comp. if you want a head start, both covers and originals will be accepted. 2 submissions per person. So take a breather, or get to work, whichever. :)

@manoverboard365 Great opener. This song sounds like it would be playing during a montage in a high school teen movie in the early 2000s. Like a bunch of scenes of a guy trying to get a girl's attention, but it keeps backfiring and she notices another guy instead. Anyway, I love this song. Might be my favorite of yours that I've heard.

@trevorshmevor Really cool jam! I love the little synth solo in the middle. That synth sound is so cool. Your voice sounds really cool on this style too. Kinda dreampoppy/lofi hip hoppy. Diggin it a lot!

@Roman Rogowski I looove the clean guitar tone on this. Sounds so good! Such a nice dreamy tune, and your vocal style works perfectly for it.

@Benjamin Lee This song's great! Another dreamy synth song. I love it! All of these synth based tracks back to back is perfect for 7 AM Brad (TM) to be listening to this morning. @SmashRipsaw Yessss! Another synth jam! I love this one. Very reminiscent of dark 80s new wave stuff. I wish I knew how to write songs that sound like this. Great synth sounds you chose too.

@bobsheiskawy Beautiful song all around! I love when the piano and back and forth vocals come in to prepare you for the big climax of the song. Very cool song!

bradsonemanband Such a beautiful mellow compilation so far and then here I come to disrupt it entirely haha sorry! I was listening to the bands Mourn and Vein a lot when I came up with the instrumental for "Bloody Nose." While I was writing the music for it, I came up with the vocals for the chorus, but that was all I could come up with vocally. I showed my little brother (who normally records hip hop music) and he loved it and said "I want to practice screaming on songs" so I let him do his thing on this song, and he killed it! We have a couple other songs like this in the works so I'll be sure to post them on here as they come. Thanks everyone for the kind words about our track. I've been sending my brother what you all have been saying about the song, and he's equally stoked.

@uuu This song is great. Has an old traditional vibe to it where it almost sounds like it should be a song we already all know and sing around campfires with our friends. Very well crafted song. The female vocals really elevate it too.

@kelcytaylor Well shit... I loooove everything about this. The main guitar riff is so pretty and cool, your vocals are fantastic, the melodies you sing are catchy, but also interesting and unique when you break up the words a bit here and there. Oh damn I didn’t expect them to put it up since I submitted like a week ago. Nice.

I believe I tagged them in my Twitter post but didn’t get any kind of response from them. I kind of figured they’re pretty popular so I wouldn’t hear anything, which is fine.

 

Yeah I tagged their foundation a few times on Twitter as well. Not really expecting a response.

 

I don't know about you guys but Tegan called me personally and said Peaches is her favorite song ever and that she is proposing we make it the national anthem. Maybe you guys just wrote bad songs????

 

Maybe we should have done a Tegan and Sara covers comp. Although to be fair, I only know like two of their songs. "Walking With a Ghost" was my jam back in 2004.
