It being optional is the best part

The tab switching is a nice feature, but everything else about it is bad.

They literally fixed every issue with the newest iteration imo. What do you dislike about it?

The way the bar tucks was consistently glitchy (on top of making it hard to use some sites), and that part of how the app worked never felt intuitive to me. I guess I haven't used the update enough to know whether they fixed it or not, but it was the worst part when I was using it. I didn't like how the initial version hid features that I used regularly, and the update with everything at the bottom feels visually bulkier, even if it actually takes up a little less space than having the address bar at the top. It was slower to use the app because the address bar is in a different place than every other browser I've ever used and I had to briefly think about where things were instead of just naturally knowing. For me, the update was just trying to fix some things that were obviously broken (and the option to toggle back was the best fix).

I'm glad you (and others, I assume) like it, but it's far from being the best new feature for iOS 15 (the OCR stuff for photos is the first thing in a long time that's felt like magic to me).

Does anyone have a suggested external hard drive?

Looking to offload some files so I can actually update my OS and serve my Plex server. A little nervous of the fragility of a spinning disk drive, so I'm thinking SSD is the way to go.

  6. I have two of the SAMSUNG T5 SSD externals. One behind my iMac for Time Machine, one on the network for Hannah's Time Machine. Both work great and I have no complaints.

for non-essential data spinning disks are more than fine, especially for Plex. You'll get way more space for your money.

as far as essential files go, you should be considering off-site storage anyway (i.e. dropbox)

that said the drives Jason recommended are def the way to go if you want to treat yoself to some solid state goodness :)

  8. Oh, and for Plex, I run that off one of those WD My Book dealios. A little more expensive, but it just sits in a closet anyway, and never gets moved. I think if you're planning to never move it, spinning is fine.

Ok so I got a new M1 iPad. Traded in my 3rd gen so it was basically half price. Also decided to treat myself to the magic keyboard with trackpad. Holy shit that thing is a game changer in how I use an iPad. Having a trackpad is great, even if it’ll take a little getting use to, the different speed settings all feel weirdly off coming from a laptop, but the keyboard is miles better than the Smart Keyboard I used to use. Nice clicks tactile keys that aren’t little fabric blobs.

Yeah, this is an update to my post a few weeks back about getting an iPad Pro, which I did and holy shit, it's my favorite electronics purchase in so long. The magic keyboard and apple pen are total game changers for me, especially when I'm using it for work tasks specifically.

I was debating on getting a Smart Keyboard for my iPad Air 3rd gen but sounds like maybe I shouldn’t haha.

So the iPhone 13 line up will apparently launch on September 17th. Even though I have the 12 Pro, I am looking forward to the 120hz screen on this model. It might just make me upgrade two years in a row for the first time in a while.

I'm probably going to trade in my 11 Pro Max, even though I know I'm going to hate going away from the rounded edges (and I also really like the green color on my current phone, but that's way lower on my priority list).

Yeah i’m rocking the green 11pro max as well but im actually hyped to get back to flat edges haha, and im sure there will be a new color for the 13s that i fall in love with. Give me some kind of orange or peach color.

I haven't held one outside of the ones attached to the security thing at the store, but it feels to me like it's a lot more awkward and less comfortable to hold, especially in the bigger size. I did see that MacRumors was speculating on an orange one, so maybe your wish will come true on that front. I'll probably just revert back to the black/gray/whatever unless they bring the green back haha.

I’m 100% sticking with my 12 Mini through the next year. I’ll honestly probably buy a 13 Mini on sale next year if this is the last year they make a Mini.

I’m on an 11 and the battery is starting to be less than great, so I’ll be upgrading to a 13 model

  22. 100% going for the mini and will probably hold onto it forever if the rumors are true about the 13 mini being the last one of its kind.

It really under performed to the point where the production line had to be partially cut back to make way for more 12s and 12 Pros.

Word on the grape vine is that if the mini doesn't do well this time around it will be dropped next year.

TLDR; Mini might become extinct Dr Grant (sorry, I couldn't resist seeing your username!)
