Let's hold our breath until we disappear

I feel like people more often comment when they want to complain or have something negative to say. It’s rare to see people excited in comment sections with things like this.

I’m personally more excited to see Slipknot than I was for Nine Inch Nails, but I didn’t really feel the need to comment about it on the Riot Fest posts. Probably a lot of Morrissey fans like that too.

i have 2 friends on FB who are long time riot-goers and are both big, long time morrisey fans (though still disappointed in him as a person) and they have been naming their guesses, which they collectively listed: MIA, Buzzcocks, Patti Smith, Andy Bell of Erasure, & Bernard of New Order. Id be down for a few of those.

Between international travel and the price tag on some of those acts... I guess I'm just not sold. Hah. And I'm still struggling to see how they could afford to put on a 4th day of a festival without losing their hats.

Buzzcocks and M.I.A. would be really cool, though! All of those make sense for potential acts. But I'd be down for those two.

I googled "Who is Morrissey friends with?" to try and figure it out last night. It was pretty much the loneliest Google search ever.

EDIT: Jonah Hill apparently thought he was becoming "best friends" with him in 2018, though. So. That's a thing I didn't need to know that I learned last night.

Solid additions, but I'm probably gonna be skipping all of these. Nothing really compelling me to stay out late.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Bronx, Living Colour, and Man on Man aftershows would be fun.

  8. Pretty interesting adds!

I'll go with the flow if my friends want to do Emo Night or MCS on Friday, or NFG/LTJ/HotMulligan on Saturday, but I'm definitely already voting for Gogol Bordello for sure.

I've never been to a club show in Chicago -- how do Radius, Metro, and Concord Music Hall compare?

Ehh, none of those aftershows excite me. Man on Man would be cool but I’m not a fan enough to grab a ticket.

Radius is a new ~3,000 cap venue in Chicago that opened right around the pandemic started so I have no idea about its quality.

Metro is probably my favorite larger venue in the city (around 1,000 cap IIRC). Good sound, decent location, and decently priced drinks for a venue that size. It's also right next to G-Man Tavern which is one of my favorite bars in the city and a hidden gem in Wrigleyville.

I was never a fan of the Concord during my time in Chicago. It's an alright venue in a great location in Logan Square. The sound there can also be hit or miss, and historically, security there is real shitty.

  11. Just the thought of going to a Sunday aftershow exhausts me.

Aiming for that MCS after show. It's right by my apartment and will take the pressure off of making sure I see them at the fest.

I was hoping for a Beach Bunny aftershow but I guess it was not meant to happen :(

Already got Bungle & Thursday, thats enough for me, though some fun stuff as always.

even though i think he is probably off base, the guy on reddit who posted his updated clashfinder really made me think about how brutal friday will be no matter how it shakes out. it might be my single most loaded day ever for me. i have high interest in 18 out of 30 bands. this is gonna hurt, though might also mean thats the day i upgrade to deluxe so i can stage hop easier.. we shall see

I'm probably gonna be skipping these. Nothing I think is worth leaving a headliner early for. MCS and Gogol is pretty tempting, but I don't think my partner would be to into it given how late the start time is. Hah.

Radius is the biggest and newest. Located south of the city. Metro is the classic venue in Wrigleyville and about 1,000 cap. Concord is a little bigger than Metro and much newer. It’s also on the west side of town. So I would say they are all pretty different.

I saw that Clashfinder yesterday! I'll be curious to see how close they come to guessing Friday correctly because their guesses are about the same as mine. Saturday looks really spot-on in the obvious spots and a bit off in others (the "punk" and "pop-punk/emo" stages look accurate) and Sunday looks way off across the board. Haha.

Very stoked on Motion City, especially since I'm sure their Riot Fest set will be a Commit This To Memory play. I'm hoping this will be a regular set. Although I guess it's possible they play it twice, but I would think it would be billed that way.

i'm driving up to this from cincinnati but was thinking about just ubering to and from the venue every day cus the website said parking is a nightmare. anyone else done that before or can recommend a cheaper method of getting there?

I ususally uber there and then walk to the L after, or just far enough away that uber becomes reasonable. But also uber prices have been insane lately so idk it'll be interesting to see this year how it goes.

If you get there early in the day ( like before gates open) there is usually some street parking on some the streets a few blocks away from the park, or along the portion of Douglass park that not being used for riot, or over by lagunitas
