    Regular

I vaguely remember someone keeping somewhat of a list of artists that have conflicts on the Thursday. But that might be Reddit

Eh. I'm not so concerned about that mask mandate. It's only going to help reduce case counts and we are still a very, very long way away from where things were last year in terms of impact on the healthcare system, which is why things shut down.

Cases are rising, but still relatively low. The same can be said for hospitalizations, which actually dropped substantially overall (18%) in the last week despite an increase in cases. It's also important to consider that a not-insignificant number of cases that we're seeing are now due to breakthrough cases that are mild or even asymptomatic, which is part of why we aren't seeing hospitalizations surge proportionally with the increase in cases.

There's potential that things due get worse between now and whenever the "we need to make a decision" time is for the festival but the current data would indicate that it's not going to hit that point. And putting things into effect like an indoor mask mandate are going to further prevent that...

If it doesn't, we all have much bigger problems to worry about than a cancelled festival, tours, etc.

I forget where I read it, but this surge barring some small outlier cases, is essentially a pandemic within the unvaccinated. I wish more venues would just say proof of vax or no admission, but it's not realistic. I also wish the vaccines could be approved for younger kids. I think that would help slow the spread, but unfortunately, there are more people that either don't believe in the vaccine or don't have access to it than was initially anticipated and that's pretty sobering to realize.

It also won't be too much of a factor for aftershows. When I saw Kississippi this past weekend she required everyone be masked the entire time and I saw pretty much everyone in full compliance, and the doorperson made people put on masks before entering the music room so the venue took it seriously too.

I've read similar statements in a number of different articles. And it's pretty true. My state had a total of ~2k documented breakthrough cases over the last couple of weeks. That's something like 30% of total cases. But among those, most are asymptomatic or very mild... And only account for 0.04% of hospitalizations in the state.

Proof of vax or no admission would certainly be the ideal. And I kinda think we might get to that point eventually. In a sense, we are exactly where we were when everything first started. But instead of trying to figure out how to live in total isolation, creating our own little bubbles... We're all trying to figure out how to start society up again in a safe way. Gonna take some trial and error, and I get why venues might want to start with looser restrictions and tighten as time goes on if they prove to not be as effective as we'd hope.

The lack of belief in the vaccine is very disturbing to me. Especially given how readily people fall for misinformation. There's a few folks I follow on Instagram who came down with COVID and when asked by their followers why they weren't vaccinated the responses ranged from "Because you can catch COVID anyway, so why deal with the side effects?" to "Because I only see a few people every day so I didn't think it was important." I've noticed that the latter are far more likely to get vaxxed after experiencing it than the former.

Yeah, so long as the venues enforce it I think it'll be fine. Is it "wearing a mask while not drinking" or masks on the whole time and no alcohol was served?

I was more implying that Riot Fest might scale back on adding shows because of it.

I've been to two shows that required masks (Kississippi and Japanese Breakfast) and it was only while not drinking or eating

yea when i went to Black Pumas a week or 2 ago, it was masked inside except for eating /drinking, but i didnt see it being enforced to much (but that was before they supposedly got super strict in the last few days here). pretty much just being in possession of a cup or can allowed you to be maskless, haha

No mask mandates here and I've only been to one indoor show at a 1200 cap venue that was sold out at 75% capacity or so. Nobody opted to wear a mask, but that was back in early July when things weren't quite as rough as they are now.

At Hella Mega ~2 weeks ago nobody was wearing masks for the most part. I was, pulling it up to sip my beer, but that was about it.

Part of my hope, with mandates like this, is that it just actually encourages people who aren't vaccinated to stay the fuck home.

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

Yeah, Hella Mega was 90/10 maskless for the most part, which included myself, admittedly, though I'm fully vaxxed. We wore masks when walking around the park, but we stood on floor in the back away from people.

I worked a Mavis Staples show last night, which again, was mostly maskless, but the show didn't sell super well anyway so people were pretty spaced apart.

Went to Kississippi and Bad Moves/Oceanator shows in DC recently and all attendees seemed to be observing requirement to wear masks except when drinking.

Friday and Saturday VIP are now sold out. GA and Deluxe still available.

TBH, I'm kind of surprised Deluxe VIP hasn't sold out yet given the emphasis on social distancing that will inevitably be there this year.

  16. Too Many Zooz dropped off their Saturday aftershow with Big Freedia — pretty odd since this is basically just a stop on their tour together.

  17. They dropped off the whole tour as well.

  18. Well that clarifies things haha

I was pretty jazzed about that show, but part of me is happy to have the opportunity to re-plan Saturday night.
