Seconding this, Shithouse was one of my favorite films of last year (despite the bad title that has barely anything to do with the movie).

The adventure of watching Game of Thrones seasons 1-5 is absolutely amazing. Yes, it got wonky and messy and the finale disappoints. But the ride to get there was amazing television and the show didn’t garner all its attention and acclaim by being a bad show. It was extremely well done up to a point and then it gets down to decent or OK. If we wanna blame anybody let’s blame Martin for not finishing his books before signing onto a tv deal lol.

And while the show does have a lot of nudity and violence, the sexuality and violence is very much part of the books. I never understood why it seemed like this series was the series where people had complete disdain towards it once the show was massively popular.

If anything I find a shows like Dexter or You, ones that are insanely unrealistic and also make white male serial killers protagonists/anti-heros a lot more alarming and off-putting.

I say this as someone who’s never watched or read any version of that series, so I don’t have a horse in this race in any way:

If your job is to tell stories via television (& film), and you become bad at it as soon as you run out of source material, that might be a sign that you’re not actually good at your job.

I was being a bit facetious there but truly I think a solid portion of that disappointment/negative response with the last few seasons/show comes from the book series being beloved by die-hard fans who had their own stories made up, and also easily criticized by casuals who didn’t really care for the series in the first place. Any show I’ve ever known to reach a certain level of popularity has as many dislikers as it does fans by the time it’s over. The Sopranos being a prime example.

  15. My opinion because I can't resist a good flame war: The Sopranos is one of the best shows of all time. GOT sucked from day one.

The books are for sure better, but after I finished season 1 I found myself hooked and clamoring to buy the books.

Speaking of bad TV, anyone tuning in for the final season of TWD lol.

I wikipedia’d everything since I stopped watching but now I kinda wanna see where they go with it for the end.

Stopped watching like a few episodes into the sixth season. Wanted to stop the season before but I continued watching because my wife was still enjoying it. The first season is incredible. Frank Darabont had it figured out for a while there early in the series.

I enjoyed the show up until Negan’s arrival and a little after. Glen’s death was impactful and that scene is one of the best shot scenes emotionally for all involved. After that, they went back into the meandering and loosely developed side characters taking up too much time.

From what I read on Wiki, they continued to do the same once Rick oddly disappears leaving behind his last living child? Like wut. S1-5 his entire motivation for not going off the rails is the hope he’ll first find them, and then second protect them and create a world where he can raise them post-apocalypse. Then he just bounced?

I only read one of the GOT books after watching, and it was fine. I’m not big on fantasy literature but the writing itself wasn’t anything spectacular whatsoever. It’s just more detail and backstory, doesn’t necessarily mean better content. The show was still good back then. After that, I never read the other books but really enjoyed the show, until I started hating it. Years later, I realize even the earlier seasons aren’t as good as I first imagined them to be, and it only got more godawful. Nothing to do with comparing to the books bc I didn’t even read the later ones—it just sucked, EXTREMELY HARD. Now I realize the problems in the writing were always there, just exacerbated after there was no book material left.

I quit Walking Dead around the season when the dude was keeping human heads in his house or whatever that was. Game Of Thrones was pretty OK most of the way through, the last two seasons were the best because they cut out so much boring bullshit. Still were just OK though

If someone dislikes the sopranos at all they have bad taste. If someone dislikes some of GoTs they are correct because it continually goes downhill after season 3.
