This album has finally clicked with me. I don’t know how I would rank it, as I still don’t like GDT or Love, but this is definitely up there with NMG.

Glad I finally like the new material!

How is this album real? NMG was fantastic but DDTM is just flawless the entire way through

Hot take and not trying to start anything but “Lightning” will never be listened to me ever again lol. I’ve listened to the album four or five times now and each time that song and that one alone just gets worse and worse to listen to. Opening 30-60 seconds or so are fine and remind me of a few of my favorite artists but after that it’s all downhill. To me personally it really stands out as almost like a half finished track or something. I rarely “edit” albums when I listen to them but this album is on a playlist with that song removed.

rest of the album continues to grow on me and listening to it today while the sun was shining was awesome.

I think Lightning is a half baked song myself. I like it but it definitely doesn’t feel fully realized IMO.

737, Beacons, and Draw Down The Moon are my favorites.

I was actually really taken aback by how much Lightning has grown on me in the context of the record compared to how on the fence about it I was as a single. also p sure it was the last one I checked out bc I was so iffy about it, but that one (and every other single) has really benefitted from context.

anyway, I had a post written up yesterday kinda summing up my feelings about this record but it ended up disappearing bc I got sidetracked and never posted it. basically, I am relieved to say I am enjoying this album a lot, way way more than I anticipated for sure. I don’t know where it will sit in the ranks of their discog atm and probably won’t for quite some time. where I am rn is that I think NMG was the more immediately impressive record but it was also a bigger leap in sound for the band, and I think that record has the higher highs (and the lowest low, with Crown Candy) and I probably overall lean more in favor of the sonic direction of that record. that said, this record at the same time is easily their best flowing/sequenced record, not that that’s something they have struggled with but like it’s airtight and feels like they paid extra special attention to that aspect. it feels like their most fully realized “full picture” release so far, if that makes sense, which definitely counts for something. also, while I was skeptical at first, I think the album’s helped by it’s shorter length because it is an absolute breeze to get through. that’s almost definitely gonna add to its replayability. but yeah, all in all, really happy about this record.

oh also just wanted to add, since they came up in the last page or two, that Korn’s run up through Issues fucking rules and they’re one of my absolute favorite bands based on the strength of that run alone and I say that with no shame or irony. :)

The drums and guitar parts and even the lyrics in Lightning are all top notch, but I can understand how some can get annoyed by the chorus

Just put on NMG for the first time in a long time. Their best to me and it isn't even close.

DDTM continues to grow on me a ton, though.

ran through DDTM and NMG back to back today, and it's fascinating to see the transition. NMG still holds this place of awe in my heart but goddamn DDTM is so good it just flies by

lightning is awesome and I literally do not have a least favorite on the album, nor do I even have a favorite they’re essentially all at the same level for me right now

It’s good but not as good as the rest.

Right now I’d say there’s not much on DDTM that touches tracks 1-6 on NMG but DDTM is much more consistent and cohesive, which, at the end of the day, probably makes it the stronger album.

it was kind of weird hearing it as a single with this but what I love about lightning is the chord changes being not technically “correct” or in key during the chorus but it obviously works and sort of keeps you on your toes in what would otherwise be a straightforward synth pop rocker, it builds way more tension with the note choice not being so obvious

who told you this room exists? Supporter

Bummer! I actually bought it because Conor responded to me on Instagram saying that I could view it later, not that I'm not happy to support (plus I got a hat) but I really loved what I saw and honestly, if I was at home, I would have recorded it so I could watch it later.

I can kinda see why people don't rate Lightning highly but I really like it. The melody of the verses is great and it has this kind of old Arcade Fire meets new Arcade Fire energy, with the galloping beat ala Everything Now and the shouted section reminding me of Funeral.

I really like the verses of Lightning but the chorus is just so clunky to me - I don't hate the song but at the moment it's just getting in the way of me listening to Bialystok

And my god if I couldn't listen to that track on repeat - how was it not a single?!

  25. Lightning is pretty clearly the worst song on here but it's still fine imo
