Power Trip Releases Manifest Decimation and Nightmare Logic on Special Edition Vinyl

Finally picked up Manifest Decimation today.

 

Ooh I still don’t have Nightmare Logic on vinyl, good call

 

I thankfully got a standard black copy of Nightmare Logic a few years back off of Amazon for like $12. But when this comes in, I'll finally have everything they've ever put out in a physical release on vinyl.

I can’t unfortunately. Some family came in from out of town unexpectedly. I’m going to try and make the Gatecreeper show though.

 

I'm vicariously excited.

 

You don't need to live vicariously through me. Haha, especially when you've got like 10+ shows on the horizon? This is my one show out at a tiny venue for the next three months, even if I am gonna be masked up and staying the fuck away from the pit.

 

Oh, I know. I'll be seeing them (again) in October if things don't keep heading south. Have fun!

 

Man I miss Power Trip

 

As of now, I actually have tickets to see them three times (tomorrow, Exhumed tour, MDF). But yeah, we'll see how things look come November for that next one.

 

MDF looks fucking stacked. I might want to head over from California for it.

 

Watching Killswitch Engage’s “Atonement” live stream tonight, and I’m reminded how formulaic this band has become, how the last three of their albums have been the same thing over and over and over. Ughghgh. Jesse has even said in interviews how he’s tried to get the band to take risks and try different things, but it almost always shot down

 

Some bands, the same-thing-every-time approach works for me. (AC/DC, Motorhead, Slayer) but when it comes to metalcore it just becomes grating. That said, I do still like Killswitch, and Disarm the Descent remains one of my favorite things they've done.

 

That reminds me of a quote from Adam in an Alt Press feature around the time of ADD coming out when he said that the band basically just sticks what they know and don’t feel like breaking out of that shell. Judging by the output now, I think it’s clear that it’s basically because Adam doesn’t want to do anything different and wants to just keep making AOJB and TEOH over and over again.

 

This is rad but man, I genuinely wish that bands would put up these livestreams for purchase or streaming somewhere. I’ve missed out on a bunch and it’s always because I got work, parenting shit, or other commitments when they go up. Throw it on their merch stores, I’ll gladly buy a copy and support a band I care about.

 

Nah, their last three are a far cry from Alive or Just Breathing; from guitar tone, to drums, to lyrics, to Jesse’s screaming; it was the peak of their career in terms of artistic quality imo. Once Jesse rejoined, they started going down this safer path, focusing even more on anthems, having a less heavy guitar tone/crunch, and more standard tempo songs. It’s led the band to be bigger than ever, so can’t fault them for that, but the three they’ve done with Jesse back just haven’t hit anywhere near as hard as AOJB
