I was just having a conversation with someone about this the other week after what's-his-face who wrote with Amy Schumer went on his rant. They refused to believe that it had ever been documented that the police didn't sincerely investigate every case of sexual assault that was reported.

yeah deviant i had not at all considered that ironic sentiment ;-)

was thinking something more transparent though, something hopefully worked out with union support. tbh i have very little understanding of the innards of journalism, but as it stands right now news is so fragmented and simultaneously entwined that having a bunch of different subscriptions (esp when they still use ads) feels like my money is going everywhere except the author's pocket.

I can only think that they still do this bc of the popularity of actors that are already established? What are they afraid of? Transgender people not bringing in as much money? Believe me, it makes me not watch whatever form of entertainment it is they're trying to sell me.

Actual trans people aren't palatable to a wide audience, just bastardized versions of our stories are.

even if they just casted a cis woman I would be less bothered by it, though that's obviously still not ideal, at least it wouldn't be misgendering.

"Between 1999 and 2014, the number of middle-aged white women dying annually from opiate overdoses shot up 400 percent, according to a Washington Post analysis of data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Anti-anxiety drugs known as benzodiazepines contributed to a growing share of the 54,000 deaths over that period, reaching a third in the last several years, The Post found, though spotty reporting in death records makes it likely that the combination is even more widespread."

Opioids and anti-anxiety medication are killing white American women

Roommates are always the most reliable source for honest testimony pertaining to an individual's character.

I was going to say hurricane patriarchy has been destroying women for two millennia, but that would imply it is a natural occurrence.

It doesn't seem like a sexist issue to me? It seems like a trivial thing to me that Hurricanes were named with female names. I'm still learning and want to improve myself but that's how the article read to me.

@Dominick I'm not as smart as you, will you dumb that down for me lol

I believe they switch male and female names for every hurricane/tropical depression.

  18. It's a pretty textbook microagression, imo. They all seem trivial when taken at face value, but they add up to a cultural bias.

You're really smart, in my opinion. Basically, I was just saying that "hurricane patriarchy", i.e., the oppression of women, has existed for a thousands of years, but to refer to it with "hurricane" in front of "patriarchy" would imply that it is naturally occurring like actual an hurricane, as opposed to a carefully/purposefully constructed set of relations that benefit men.

  20. Yeah, the article notes that. I guess they made the switch in the 70's and it was highly controversial, largely with the forefathers to the MRA movement.

I can see all of that now that you point it out. I have a hard time with multifaceted issues sometimes. I think the only way I can explain it is it's like tunnel vision for me and I don't see the grand scheme of the issue. It's something I've been working on.

Better to ask questions than attack the topic at hand like so many do out of turn.
