i mean its not secret pitchfork has become highly corporatized especially since the conde naste buyout and their decisions are driven by business, but when it comes to reviews i fail to acknowledge that a score means more than the actual words written

 

like i said durk was good. not much else stood out but i'll listen again if this goes up on streaming

 

assuming the album even comes out, i bet it gets a 4 or 5. the stans don't like it, it isn't particularly interesting sonically, and it doesn't seem to contribute a whole lot to his broader artistic narrative.

oh I'm not saying they mean more to me, just on paper they aren't giving him less than a 7 despite the reviews for the past 2 albums seemingly written as less than 7 reviews. So on paper he's still getting a 7+ even if the words are more negative, which still translates to someone seeing a higher average on metacritic and the like. Which there's still an amount of people who will take the number score as the main basis

 

Which is to say I'll happily eat my words if reviews come out for this that actually are on the lower end of scoring!

 

yes my point is those people who do that don't matter and never have and never will, they're looking for confirmation bias nothing is gonna sway them into thinking the album is actually not good. which is fine different opinions are going to exist but negative reviews aren't going to convince stans of anything other than that the mainstream is against him now and he's super brave

 

I really don't think p4k could 7+ this if it goes up tonight. Y'all need to hear the opener to believe it
