My overwhelming first thought listening to this:

Greg Phillinganes is hands-down one of the best to ever do it.

 

Oh nice! I will add the Wallflowers new album to my list!

 

Got two floor seats to the Boston show.

 

I wanted floor seats but best available kept sending me to row 25 right at 10:00

 

Yeah, I’m in floor j, a little further back, but close to the aisle. Wanted to splurge a bit this time. I was in the balcony for his last Boston show and had a miserable time lol.

 

Had no luck with Toronto. Only wanted 2 floor tix and the first three sections were all VIP or platinum seats for $300-$800 each

 

I was up in the balcony section as well for this last Boston show. I got to see him play in CT at the outdoor venue for the other half of that tour and it was awesome being outside on the lawn. At this point I don't care where I sit, just hope I can get tickets in general.

 

Wow. Tickets in the balcony now cost what I paid for floor seats.

Unless someone buys me tickets to this tour as a gift...I probably won't be going. Wayyyyyy over my budget.

I can never decide if I find Caramanica insightful or insufferable. Maybe a little bit of both.

 

that was an insufferable read and I walked away unsure if the author ever actually listened to the album more than once, most of the article just took problem with the stylistic signifiers of the era he’s calling back to and his merch?

all time great

 

Continuum beyond being a great album has one of the greatest 3 track closing runs of any album I've ever heard.

 

I'm not really sure I care for this record, and haven't returned to it much at all

He executes the style well, but it feels like a costume he put on for a parody record

New Light is great but its three years old, and I liked the older version of Carry Me Away better

This is a step down from The Search for Everything IMO

 

It's probably my least favourite of his but I still like it a lot. Only one song I don't like and the rest range from good to great, there's nothing on here that I'd put on par with his best work though.

I actually wish he went further into the sound, the songs where he went in on it (Last Train Home, New Light, Shot in the Dark) are my favourites on the album.

Is anyone going to the Boston Show?

 

Tonight he played “In Your Atmosphere”, “Neon” and “Free Fallin” acoustic because the drummer and another band member tested positive for COVID. Then Questlove came out to drum for the last five songs.

What a show. Holy cow.

 

Awesome set list, but I hope that the drummer and other band member are okay.
