England’s deep squad don’t really mean shit when you don’t make subs.

Senior players that didn't step up? How about one that was subbed on only to be subbed off, therefore shirking at his responsibility as an alleged leader within the squad?

I think I said it earlier in the tournament but feck England remind me of United so much.

This England team has been great, this generation has by far the most unity I've seen England have since the 1980s. Their future is bright. The English teams prior always seemed marred by their club rivalries. There's been a great change in English football the last 5-10 years and this is the result, so good so far.

For Italy, this generation is special too and in they lit this tournament up. They didn't have massive names or superstars but their unity and great tactical nous made the team shine. I'm excited to see them in the World Cup next year.

who's the Italian coaching staff member who looks like Groucho Marx?

Italy should have Zaniolo back by the World Cup. He's an unreal player when fit and certainly worth some (neutral) excitement over.

Gotta say the Immobile/Berardi sub was brilliant. I though Rice and Phillips were doing a great job in midfield up to that point. But bringing on Berardi and having Insigne (I think?) playing in the centre allowed Italy to gain more control.

    Such a whirlwind of emotions.

Very proud of the team for getting to the final. We're a great team with some great players, and we should have won that. We let them back into it and we paid the price.

Southgate's subs were abysmal. Henderson was rubbish, and Saka looked knackered. Only Grealish looks half decent.

As for the penalties, I am incandescent that they let a nineteen year old take the final penalty. Southgate knows personally how that feels and he let it happen. That is GROSS mismanagement. You have fucking Jack Grealish there and you give it to Saka? Bullshit.

Rashford and Sancho tries stupid penalties, but they're young kids. I hope all three who missed are okay, my heart broke seeing Saka cry.

In the end, Southgate cost us I think. Poor tactics, poor substitutions, poor choice of penalty takers.

We'll be back at the World Cup. Hopefully this experience will make us stronger.

    hmmm

Ultimately we created nothing after the goal. Two hours, plenty of attacking talent, did nothing with it. Allowed Italy to play at the tempo they wanted to. More disappointed at that than the decisions around the penalties.

Kinda wild that CONCACAF’s summer tournament starts the weekend both UEFA’s and CONMEBOL’s ends.

Hopefully Daryl Dike goes on an absolute tear.

  15. I really hate that is does because now all of the good US players are going to Europe for pre-season. We’re going to look pretty bad and then Taylor Twellman will go on a impassioned rant about American soccer failing without applying any context to the situation.

yeah most of Concacaf is teams like Martinique. USA and Mexico are decent, Canada's current crop of players is decent. From there, a few countries in Central America like Costa Rica are good too.

Hopefully the expressly stated “we’re letting our most important WCQ players rest” right after the nations league final will protect us from this for a moment…

Really curious who in this Gold Cup group will play their way into the main group.

T&T just drew with Mexico last night 0-0. I don’t think that helps, haha.
