Damn... Mexico had a few clear cut chances but didn't seem to be all that threatening. T&It's defense looked fairly confident and composed even if they lacked a bit of athleticism and technical ability. Those second half subs really paid off and it's definitely a shocker that Mexico only picked up a point in the opening match. Unfortunately the ref was about as poor as you can expect in a CONCACAF match.

 

Happy for Argentina but happier for Messi - at least that answers that stupid "but has he done it with the national team?" question his haters used to use to discredit him & his achievements

Cut off the channels for the runs from their midfielders (and three CBs potentially allows them to track aggressively into midfield to help Rice and Phillips), give wing backs space and freedom outside of the narrow Italy formation and allow Mount and Sterling the freedom to go inside and isolate Jorginho, maybe with Sterling playing higher to make the runs behind for Kane. Theoretically anyway.

I'm surprised though; I'd have thought Southgate would want to challenge their full backs more. Interesting to see how the first twenty minutes goes.

Missing the final because we’re driving back from my cousin’s wedding and someone peppered a road with nails so we’re just now getting through a three hour line for a tire patch.
