When I told my mother I was a revolutionary socialist, she said I'd grow out of it. Now she tells me that she wants to vote for Bernie and often says she wants the revolution to happen. :)

By revolution, she means the violent revolution.

 

My parents really like Ted Cruz, but my sister's family are really into Hilary. I try to be "nice" about Hilary but they always try to rub in how "unrealistic" Bernie is.

My family usually resorts to, "you don't know what you're talking about," when I challenge their conservative beliefs. I try to avoid talking about it most of the time now.

As a total outsider looking in from the UK it's great to see the left starting to get some momentum in the States. The hope and belief in a better alternative is something we'd do well to try and capture over here.

My mom, who is a hxc Republican, said she would vote for Bernie in the general election if she gets the chance to. I think that says more about her feelings towards the GOP candidates (we're from Ohio, so we don't buy Kasich's moderate act for a second) than it does Bernie, but I'll take it anyways!

I know nothing about Kasich's policies towards basically anything, but automatically think of him as the moderate guy because he has yet to say anything, y'know, racist/xenophobic/misogynist/fascist. What's some of the stuff he's done in Ohio?

 

Bernies out here in the boroughs tonight, hope he had a great rally in the bx. I was going to check it out but my dad has to work early tomorrow so I couldn't stay over.

 

he's defunding planned parenthood but he's also favored treating drug addicts like humans and not criminals. he's my preferred GOP candidate, but I'm a silly bernie guy who is going to write in this time because I live in california and I can. FSM help us all if donald and hillary are the candidates.

 

Also. I'm taking a trip back home next weekend and I am ready for The Politics Conversation with my dad and brother. It's been a long time since we've had one because it's better if we don't, but this is too good to pass up.

 

He's passed legislation (that was defeated in referendum, thank god) to strip public unions of collective bargaining rights, defunded Planned Parenthood while also signing into laws restrictions that have shuttered half of the state's abortion providers, privatized prisons as well as the state's economic development office while pushing state education the same way by sending state dollars to charter schools and quadrupling the numbers of private schools as a whole, banned healthcare workers from unionizing, proposed tax cuts for the richest Ohioans while raising taxes on the middle and lower class, and champions other regressive tax policies including laying the groundwork for abolishing the state income tax altogether. And then his office has also directed more money and resources to white communities suffering from the heroin epidemic in Ohio than has gone to the major 6 biggest cities. I would caution against using Cruz/Trump as the benchmark for extremism and add that, record-wise, he is as conservative as anyone. Rhetoric only counts for so much.

It's rough, because I love my family so much. But, I have a few Trump supporting uncles who SWEAR it's people like "me" who are ruining America. I love everyone and want people (including Conservative Christians) to be allowed to be themselves and coexist.

Rand Paul has a "yuge" endorsement announcement tomorrow. If it's Trump, shame on him, he has criticized him so much it wouldn't make sense.

 

He's going to endorse Bernie Sanders

 

Rand supporting Bernie would be dope. I really liked Ron Paul in '12.

Can't see it being Bernie. But that would be super awesome if it was.
