That's kind of what I thought when I listened to that album today.

I think "My Best Theory" is plenty catchy and was a great single. But I also think "Coffee & Cigarettes" is by far the worst song on Invented.

I will be okay. everything Supporter

Coffee & cigarettes is probably the catchiest song on invented

It's also unique from their other singles in a way that I don't think "My Best Theory" really was.

Love the song, never liked the music video for "My Best Theory," but hey - it did manage to grab the #1 spot on the alt songs chart, so clearly people liked it. It simply hasn't received lasting airplay from the formatted stations...as if that matters, b/c I'm sure the streams give a better perspective on it's longevity.

So I'm listening to a certain breakthrough album by a certain unfortunately-acronymed band and I have one question:

"Hear You Me:" great ballad, or greatest ballad?

    Ok ballad.

Hear You Me has made me cry more times than any other song, ever. I don't think I've ever listened to it and not at least gotten goosebumps.

I don't even think it's the best JEW ballad, though it is a great song.

    What's your top JEW ballad?

It changes daily/weekly/monthly and on and on. So ranking feels pretty pointless. Sometimes I would kill to defend Kill as my favorite, then I'll be destroyed by Polaris or 23. And this is just Futures. It would take me days to figure out the first 10 or so.

Yes we are going to so this.

Well, I guess it depends on how you define ballad. I would classify "23" as one, so that's my pick.

Yeah like, do we count something like Kill as a ballad? If not then My Sundown I guess.

I don't know if I personally classify "23" as a ballad, at least not in the traditional sense of the word.

But then, I don't know what I WOULD classify it as, either. The band kind of defies traditional labels in a lot of what they do.

Yeah JEW does a lot of sounds well. Slow drones (Table For Glasses) heavy rockers (Pain) aggressive tracks (Bleed American) mid tempo jams (Work) electronic influenced tracks (Here It Goes) acoustic ballads (My Sundown) almost folk-y sounding tracks (Kill) post rock jams (Goodbye Sky Harbor) anthemic pop rock (The Middle) textured indie rock (Littlething) and so, so much more. So many styles covered so well by such a dynamic and talented band.

I made some good progress. Ranked all of the studio tracks since Clarity, though I'm sure I'll go back and tweak it a bit. Going to be hard for me to do Static and some of the b-sides I don't listen to as much.
