You missed an absolute 10/10 banger of a race.

 

Honestly was worried when Hamilton got past Leclerc early on but his inability to pull away was indicative of the race pace of the Merc, and he was relatively easily reeled in by both RB's.

Unbelievably unlucky from Max but Lewis fucking up and getting 0 points will at least mean he still leads and hasn't lost ground.

Very happy for Checo, Seb and Pierre to get the podium. Love a totally different podium.

 

Baku doesn't disappoint does it? Those tyre accidents were nasty. Max in particular really went in hard.

I can't believe Lewis got that restart so right and then so wrong... They were saying in the post race stuff that he had some brake heating mode on, which is why the car just went straight on.

Great podium though. Pleased for Vettel and Gasly showing he's a talent again.

That Latifi situation where they had him drive up behind a lorry was shocking though.

 

IndyCar this season has been so great. Went to the race today, and Pato drove his ass off. One of the best races I’ve attended.

 

Magnussen and Grosjean in the same field again

 

Veekay is also gonna be out with a broken collarbone for a while (when are drivers gonna learn to stay away from Cycling?) so Askew is replacing him. Hope Magnussen has some success, love to see him get a ride next year

 

Paul Ricard really is a pig of a circuit to look at.

Also, how is it that a circuit rebuilt so recently is so narrow and also is designed such that two red flags were needed for really trivial accidents in qualifying?

Want to be proven wrong, but I bet the race tomorrow will be a lullaby.

 

Pretty sure red flags have always been used to clear incidents in qualifying. Especially when there needs to be marshals or vehicles on track to help remove the car.

Russell is absolutely flying at the end of this race. Cut two seconds off Sainz in a couple of laps. Shame his first few laps had him so far back.

Unusually good race at this track. Some kind of dopey calls from Merc today. Looks like they took a 1-3 and turned it into a 2-4. Top 4 all drove really well.

McLaren quietly excellent as well.

 

Yeah, fair point. I think I'm just getting wound up by quali red flags after the last couple of races.

 

George starting 10th with free tyre choice could be brilliant. Come on George!

What an average race, at least we get a triple header. Hopefully next week's race will be different...

 

Tyres are different, but I do think this is a missed opportunity to try out the sprint racing format with a direct comparison.
