F13 is interesting in that the original film might not even crack the top half of the series as a whole. I tend to skip over it in my history of horror class, if only paying a little tribute to some of the F/X work.

I'm curious how you make that class work given the T&A and gore in the horror genre.

I choose the films that won't get me in trouble, haha. Psycho, NOTLD, Jaws, Halloween (with a warning), Scream (with a warning). A simple disclaimer in the syllabus typically covers me. Plus, it's an elective and if a kid/parent doesn't want to be a part of it, they can opt to switch classes. 99% of the time, the kids don't show their parents the syllabus and no one questions it.

My best friend growing up saw and was traumatized significantly by the Elephant Man when he was very young (I think in the 4-7 range). Once as 16 year olds we were having a hang out with some girls and at Blockbuster we, for some reason, chose The Elephant Man and Kung Pow to rent. We watched Kung Pow first and everyone enjoyed themselves immensely, then we put in the Elephant Man and not even 5 minutes in he gets up and leaves and after 45 minutes I was like "where did he go" so I went to his room where he was playing video games because he said he couldn't handle it but didn't want to interrupt the movie for us.

Raging Bull wins it with 19 votes. The Shining was in a very close second place with 18 votes. Raging Bull will move on to the bracket.

I know those are both titanic films but I didn’t expect that

I must confess that the main reason I put The Shining on my list was because I figured it had a better chance of fighting off Star Wars 2. So far we have avoided a major mistake.

What a dumbass way to vote for something like this. Just pick your favorite 3. Lord help me if I ever care about strategy in a poll of, like, 12 people on a music website.

It’s okay. The scene at the club with Bill Duke towards the end grabbed my attention. Schrader does his best work at night.
