I'm confused, so the new GoW WILL NOT be cross gen?! I also saw an IGN article that said Jim Ryan has no interest in cross gen games that further reinforces this.

 

That new interview with Herman drops God of War in with Horizon as examples of crossgen games

 

God Of War 2 is coming to PS4.

Totally a nod to Dark Souls in Biomutant but when you clear out enemy encampments you can use their fire pits to rest aka heal.

 

Until they can overcome the shortage of next gen consoles there really doesn't seem much point

 

That’s actually a fair point, but they were planning some cross gen games before the shortage. Just confuses me they went all out on the dual sense, and adapting cool elements in games around it. To then have Horizon be also on PS4.

No doubt they have a good reason, but I'm pretty they're selling PS5s on par with what the PS4 sold despite the shortage. It could of course be that they are expecting that that won't last.

 

Whatever the reason is, it sucks that last gen consoles will be holding those games back

 

I mean we cant know 100% that the ps5 versions of the games or the games general design would be “held back” in some way

I think usually when it comes to this as a rule its scalable things like textures, draw distances, etc. mostly via ram for this console gen. Games that utilize new tech to achieve things outside of these improvements seem to be the exception to the rule and generally come around less often.

 

It's more likely that the base PS4 versions will be fucking terrible

 

It absolutely holds back the imaginations and potential of the devs when it comes to what they can even do in the game in the first place. It’s not just about “will this game run in 4K/60fps” or not. Going all the way back to the conceptual stages of these games, I’m sure there were things that were either not even suggested, or suggested and shot down, because “PS4 wouldn’t be able to handle that”. What we’ll likely get are games that are largely the same in scope as the last ones, when we should be getting evolutions.
