Why do you think this wouldn’t reach her attention? Google “Ellie kemper” right now and every one of the top news articles is about this.

i’m sure she has a publicist and everything but, yeah man, i don’t think most celebs care about tweets about them from randos and aggregators that collect those tweets

...You don’t think a person cares about the fact that the first thing that comes up when you search their name is headlines about them being connected to some sort of vaguely KKK/white supremacist shit? In 2021? It’s not exactly the same as paparazzi bullshit about who they’re dating or whatever.

Almost charming in its naïveté to think that a celebrity 1) wouldn’t hear about an obviously viral story calling her, among other things, the KKK queen, and 2) wouldn’t care.

One of the tweets posted in here is people speculating about how her costars from a show that ended 10 years ago would talk about it. That's wild!

people tweet wild shit on a daily basis about celebs and yet we almost never see statements directly discussing them, probably because if they did, it would be the only thing they’d ever talk about

taika waititi isn’t out here making statements confirming he’s separated from his wife and in a throuple with tessa thompson and rita ora lol. i get the stakes are different but, yeah, most celebs seem to think of the importance of “online” talk as fairly minimal

It also bring up something to potentially be wary about (maybe, I’m gonna stress that word here) in people trying to find random gotchas in people’s pasts in attempts to get them cancelled or whatever. Now, I think this is basically a one off thing from some weird people (prob Gen Z) who thought they were being clever and probably didn’t do any research beyond the face value and not really a trend. But this is also a moment to step back a sec and assess that kind of behavior in people. Whether the intention is good or not, it’s not really a particularly healthy or normal thing to go dig up random events of random celebrities in their past to get them called out, cancelled, or whatever the intention is despite doing nothing to warrant such a thing. It’s honestly sociopathic/psychotic if you think about it.

Now again, I think this is just a case of someone being arrogant and thought they got a clever gotcha on *checks notes* Kimmy Schmidt and not like a indication of a trend going on. Could it be one though? Maybe, if we let people go buck wild on that concept and not call them out on being weird ass people chasing clout or whatever it is they’re desiring in that moment.

Go to Ellie's IG. Look at the top comments on the most recent post.

    "Bestie you gotta say something"
"I'm wondering which'll come first, comments turned off or notes app apology"
    "Not the KKK"

I don't even really want to defend her, lol. Who knows how involved she was/what she benefitted from etc. I just think that this entire thing is a non story that someone ignorantly drudged up, misspoke about and then people ran with before they corrected themselves. The original tweet should be deleted, but that isn't going to stop this dumb runaway train.

This just isn’t really true at all. The Taika Waititi example is the exact kind of thing that is totally personal and not worth acknowledging publicly. But celebs constantly make public statements about even pretty minor indiscretions if there’s some accusation of outright or unintentional bigotry or whatever, usually generic shit about learning and growing etc etc. And even if this is from decades ago, it’s still a fair step above that since it’s not like “Ellie Kemper said some racist thing 20yrs ago” but “Ellie Kemper has some sort of clear connection to this bizarre, cult-y, racist(?) group/event”

i want her to make a public statement. i want her to condemn the group. assuming she will address it all seems pretty odd considering the history of celebs completely ignoring everything negative said about them

It is possible that she still has family who lives in the area and is worried that they might be in some shit if she said anything about it.

A public statement about what???? Should we have every celeb with rich parents come out and apologize for being born into money lol? I mean that'd be pretty entertaining but what an empty gesture.

I for one would like people born into money to come out and call for wealth redistribution.
But seriously I’m all for exposing rich and famous people as coming from wealth and power just to keep chipping away at the narrative that success in this country just comes from merit and hard work. The kkk connection seems to be obviously not true and was irresponsible to throw out there, and really distracts from what could be a discussion about a more typical and still hugely inequitable dynastic power system.
