There are definitely people who are stoked to “cancel” somebody. Going from that weird (probably/definitely problematic) pageant to “Ellie is a KKK member” is fucking reckless and shitty.

Haha, honestly, yes. Saying she was a KKK beauty queen carries such a different connotation than saying what actually happened. If anything, I look at her more negatively for being born to an incredibly wealthy family than I do for whatever weird True Detective cabal shit that is. She was a teenager.

 

to me, i think of it similarly to the people who were born into scientology (though obviously the wealth factors in differently). it .. just is not that hard at all as an adult to speak out about the weirdo shit your parents forced on you. it isn’t. but at the same time, unless they’re actively talking about how they still believe in the stuff, it’s a pretty big assumption to presume that they’re totally 100% down with how they were raised

it would seem a bit foolish though to presume she didn’t actively benefit from this group

 

It’s been said already but yeah, it’s just weird to bring up this thing she did as a teenager in the 90’s and then tweet it out with vague insinuations that’s she’s racist or whatever the intention was. Plus, it’s also just really weird that someone went out of their way to go find this stuff and then post it for no true honest reason other than to start shit just because.
