I think it’s cool how available Fred has made himself over the past year between his Facebook live performances every Sunday AM and his YouTube series. That said, I have to wonder what some of the current TBS guys think of all the TBS stuff he’s still doing and talking about 14 years later - on pretty much a weekly basis. I could see it not sitting well with them. Especially after Fred publicly said he asked to rejoin the band following Eddie’s departure. It’s almost like Fred is trying to speak his reunion into existence.

Woah I didn't know that! I thought I remember him saying that he asked if they'd be interested in him coming out to do a guest appearance on a few songs at a show, but they didnt seem interested.
Surprised he would ask to replace Eddie, given how friendly him and Eddie have been in recent years.

Either on a podcast or one of his YouTube/Facebook sessions within the past year, he mentioned that he kicked the tires on joining the band during their 20th anniversary tour knowing they were down Eddie, but the band said it wasn't the right time, or something like that.

He was also very open about joining the band during the AMA he did a year or so ago.

As much of a better guitarist Fred is than John, it wouldn’t be right. IMO, John Nolan and Adam are taking back Sunday. Fred would just once again be a hired gun. The current line up is just what tbs is supposed to be. Obviously missing Eddie though :/

this has also crossed my mind, and it made me think about how after he left the remaining members said he was a bit of a snake...

He seems like a nice guy, and I’m not Trying to speak Ill of him, but it definitely made me think.

Hey he's a businessman too, I'm sure he knows it'd be a nice chunk of change to do a "Super TBS" tour of sorts lol

Fred did talk to Adam about potentially rejoining in 2018, but Mark put the breaks on that.

Since then, he's been in touch with all his former bandmates except Mark. Mark hates Fred very, very deeply.

Fred knows that a reunion isn't likely to happen anytime soon, though he's always open to the idea. I don't think it's weird that he puts out TBS related content on his YouTube channel from time to time (I don't think it's on a "weekly basis"-- the last TBS related thing he released on his channel was the "Ghost" playthrough two months ago. He has mostly been focusing on The Color Fred stuff.

It makes sense for him to do this Louder Now video because he was a HUGE part of making that record... I'm talking about being the only person in the studio with Eric Valentine for weeks working on music while everyone else fucked off. That album is like 50% Fred, 30% Adam, 20% everyone else.

Mark seems to hate a lot of people haha. At least it seems like he does haha. Fred, Eddie, Fazzi, and Rubano should just start a band at this point.

Dual vocals with Fred and Fazzi, 3 headed guitar monster, Fazzi on guitar/keys or even Keytar, Rubano slappin’ da bass, and a rad 3 way vocal harmony between Fazzi, Fred, and Rubano.

They should call themselves, New Again.

Heh. I'm not Fred if that's what you're getting at, but I do have a bit of insight on the situation. Mark is a very bitter person, and Adam is forever afraid of alienating him. It's why he passed on participating on Fred's Louder Now video.

I'm not going to argue with someone in Fred's social circle here, and to be earnest with you, I don't have any problems with Fred trying to rejoin the band and/or continue to post TBS related content, but he absolutely does on a weekly basis. Every Sunday morning at 10 a.m. he does the Facebook live show and always plays TBS songs, which again, is fine and nothing to be ashamed of because he was a big part of their success.

Please tell Fred I said hi and looking forward to a repress of The Color Fred on vinyl and hoping for a Terrible Things press as well!

Got it. I wasn't counting the livestreams. I think Fred is very much a people-pleaser and he knows that most people who tune in are big TBS fans. Anyway, I understand what you meant now

Mark was definitely throwing stones in the AP Oral History lol. Clearly he harbors a lot of resentment towards Fred from then. I think a key part of it being that the songwriting dynamic changed with Fred coming in. Mark contributed a good deal to writing guitar riffs for the band, and I don’t think it’s a stretch to imagine he probably clashed with Fred quite a bit over input

    Are You Watching Closely?

Funny.... I always considered Mark to be the most expendable member of the band musically, and the one that comes across as the largest douche in any interview/dvd Ive seen of theirs

  19. cricketandclover

    Things have changed.

Mark wrote the “Cute Without the E” riff, but don’t know about anything else.

Swing for sure and I believe Better Homes and Gardens are the other two that immediately come to mind. Not as sure about earlier material.

Eddie definitely wrote the intro to 180.

Based off interviews over the years it seems Mark is a pretty big part of the guitar writhing

EDIT: Nothing At All is another from Mark

I totally believe that. You can pick up on the dynamic change the way he talks about his two TBS albums. He seems to hold the WYWTB album and era in high regard, but whenever he talks about Louder Now he always makes mention at how stressful it was and being a rough period.

That's a bummer to hear Adam passed on joining in on his Louder Now video, that would've been fun. I'm hoping at one point down the road he can get Andy or Josh on the channel and talk about Terrible Things. That was a great record and the label basically swept it under the rug.
