The issue with Everyday Life (which I like a lot, just don't quite love it) is that there aren't enough actual songs. So much of it is interludes or little musical fragments/experiments. I find those things mostly very enjoyable, but it's definitely a different kind of album experience.

Yeah I feel the same pretty much. It's an impressionistic record where you just get a taste of these different ideas but nothing is fully explored to any conclusion. I think I do like the presentation more than if they had just, say, done a rarities/demo album with these songs like a lot of artists typically do.

yeah EL feels like an album of interludes, even though I know better that's just my set impression of it. really needed a couple more "Arabesque"-style heavy hitters and a couple less, uh, Chris Martin-does-gospel tracks

It’s funny what people like and don’t like - for me that’s what elevates the album and why it’s become one of my favourites by them. You’ve got these big songs and then moments of atmosphere. The only one that doesn’t work for me is the demo where he forgets the words.

Watching the videos they released at sunrise and sunset really enhanced my view of the album too. It’s just the atmosphere that hits me.

But I do respect what people are saying and understand it’s not for everyone.

I think you can even keep what they have, but just have more full songs in there. Like, there are lot of interludes on Viva too, but it feels like it comes together more as an album because those bits are anchored to really good Coldplay songs.

I also think the fact that they were quick to be like "we aren't touring this" also lends to that interpretation (even though they claimed otherwise it was for environmental reasons), that EL is more like a scraps record than a true Coldplay record.

It's still a cool album though!

Adding Flags to Everyday Life helps it out and gives it one more actual and really good song.

Sky Full of Stars fucking rules and I won't hear otherwise, it's the moment of catharsis Ghost Stories needs and leads into the closing track perfectly.

Oh yeah and the slow-build segue from the end of Oceans works SO well.

Gonna try to not spam this song in too many threads lol, but I just discovered this new band today and I think fans of “A Rush of Blood to the Head” era Coldplay would love it. Has that massive stadium-sized quality to it with gorgeous instrumentation and vocal melodies.
