What is the Europa Conference League? Tottenham will compete in 2021/22? When will games be played?

 

I mean, if it’s that low of a competition, I’d imagine it’ll just be used as a way for our young players to get experience.

If United win on Wednesday, would the 5th place PL team then qualify for CL?

 

I think since they qualified via league as well, no. If they were in 5th or lower, yes.

That conference League is such a poisoned chalice. I guess they were imagining the teams from the big leagues would have been like West Ham and Eibar, not Spurs and Villarreal lol.

Yes you can pick your u-23’s but your manager and staff have to leave the country for two days to go to Romania, or Azerbaijan, on a Thursday. Just means your preparation for the league is ruined for a rubbish trophy.

Honestly glad we aren’t involved, even if it would have meant some new possible away days which would have been fun.

You want to win every trophy of course and you shouldn’t mock it, but I’m very grateful we don’t have that.

 

I like the idea for introducing new match ups. It'll be good to see how the league's compare. Like the Champions League gives us a good indicator or how the very top teams in each league compare, but I've always been curious about how the midtable clubs in different countries compare.

Like people say the Premier League is stronger than La Liga. Well let's see how it is in terms of depth. How do the 8th placed teams in each league compare etc.

Obviously, a lot of teams won't take it seriously, but it'll be nice for the smaller clubs.

 

Yeah I think it’s great for the smaller clubs. To get some European experience. Awful if a top club slips into it though.

Who is the random player that’ll have a huge showing at Euros this summer, go to a PL team for a ton of cash, and then be average for his entire tenure at that club?

Not bad! Haven’t heard anything about him since the 2018 World Cup but seems like he’s doing alright.

 

Spain squad announced - Luis Enrique has only picked 24 players and Sergio Ramos isn't one of them. If you are leaving 2 spaces in the squad for no reason, why not just take him purely for his leadership qualities and presence in the dressing room?

 

I’d rather face the backlash of not taking him over the backlash of not playing him at all. He’s played seven matches in 2021 total.

It's just bizarre to me. If not Ramos, why not call up another CB and RB as backup for an already weak defence? Laporte has a difficult tournament ahead of him as the most senior CB in the squad, the other 3 have only 7 caps each!

 

Inigo Martinez recused himself from the squad to focus on his mental health, so I think that's the CB they're missing.

In all fairness, Real Madrid's Nacho should've been called up and he fits that role. I wouldn't be surprised to see him be a late add, if there's still time.

 

Brøndby of Denmark are set to win their first league title in 16 years this evening. Ebbe Sand playing for them v United in the Champions League is among my earliest footballing memories.
