Let's hold our breath until we disappear

Scott Ian commented “See you there!”

Maybe Anthrax on the 2022 lineup

even still, they're also a big act that has only gotten bigger.

    I could see it.

2022 festival lineups are going to be huge. Plenty of acts are still not wanting to get back out there to tour this fall.

RTJ was a sub-headliner to The Killers at Lolla in 2017 and were set to headline Pitchfork in 2020. I think they definitely are headliner material at Riot in 2021.

Absolutely. They only got bigger with RTJ4.

they also whipped all the ass last time they headlined. RTJ is fun as hell live.

    It's completely different.

The 1975 might technically, on paper, be "more emo" or whatever at this point than somebody like a Fall Out Boy or whatever. But that's not the overwhelming perception of the band. I hear what you're talking about sonically (kinda), but so much more goes into a booking decision than "this one album has emo moments." That entire band's aesthetic just isn't a fit at this point. Maybe if they fall off a bit, I could see them as direct support or something.

No Doubt is, inarguably, at a pop band level. But they have a legacy behind them that's firmly rooted in the punk/ska/alternative scene of the 90s. The 1975 don't have that. Not yet, anyway... I can see them being in that position in the alternative music world in like, 5-10 years once their influence (if any) seeps into music at the time and they start getting cited as an influence.

One of my favorites. I still might pick up a single day for them.

if RTJ is headlining, they have plenty of time to plan ahead.... Zack better make a cameo

I love RTJ, but it didnt make sense to me when they headlined in 2018, and it doesnt make sense to me now in 2021.

The biggest venue they've headlined here in NYC is only 3,000 capacity. Faith No More and Coheed play bigger venues than that.
The fact that they say more acts are being announced yet the updated poster didnt have any ???? on it makes me think that there still could be a third headliner. We'll see!

And curious for anyone who watched RTJ in 2018, how was their crowd turnout? Comparable to other headline slots?

    Not much different than Jawbreaker

in 2018, they lowered ticket prices and I think that Sunday was a really nice weather day.. so I think a lot of people showed up just to show up

Yeah, but that NYC show probably sold out in seconds. They have done a really good job at keeping their live shows pretty limited which ups the demand at festivals. Versus Faith No More who did two separate headlining runs last time they went out. Or Coheed who tour pretty consistently and have since 2002.

I do think it's a bit odd that they're top three just because of how consistently they appear at festivals but... It's not such a reach for me. I was expecting a "surprise" headliner to knock them down a spot, but I'm not mad at it and I'm not entirely surprised.

$300+ for ga tickets for a "punk band" in large corporate arenas. Rubbed me the wrong way

That was just floor, you could get actual seats for like 50 bucks

Pumpkins & MCR did the same thing

Meh, demand was obviously there. The shows sold very well.

Not the point. Nose bleed and seats for a rancid/misfits show and its still 50? Doesn't really sound all the fun.

Considering I could go to riotfest for an entire weekend for less is insane. I saw green day in a smaller venue 4 years ago for $100ish.

Such a next stratosphere money grab

to be fair to that guy, Johnny Quest does think they are sellouts

Its not even about "selling out"... its pricing just so many people out of seeing them. Yeah you can see them for $50, but you might maybe see danzig kinda if that's okay

And don’t forget about making his movie that I have is terrible (but I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch it)!

Edit: And if there wasn’t that kind of money in it for them, I really don’t think they would want to put up with each other. So it is either high prices or no reunion at all.

MCR is playing on the Friday in 2022. Makes you wonder what they have in store to close that out.

finally getting to some of the bands i hadnt listend to/heard of before - and holy shit, how have i gone this long without hearing The Gories.they have instantly shot up my plan to see list. also digging mother mother!

also to go along with my gripe about bands having too similar of names now - i was shocked when i put on a Ratboys song and heard a female singer because i incorrectly thought it was Ray Boy, who was British and all dudes when i saw them open for the interrupters in '19, haha
