I took a dump on Keel Timing when I first heard it but in the context of the album it’s pretty stellar, this album is very thematic musically and it works amazingly

i know i inadvertently started the closer rankings and i just wanna say that MO has some very exceptional closers and me saying that The Internet might be my new favorite is a take completely based on personal bias and i dont think its their /best/ or most impressive closer from an objective standpoint. i just think its neat and its something thats resonating with me atm!

It’s always puzzled me that it was left off Cope

When I bought it on CD, it was included, so I just always went with it as the closer.

Also, interesting side note, I think COPE was the last physical CD I ever purchased, and I have over 800 of them.

“The River” is the bomb and is pretty handily their best closer, IMO. Not sure there’s a moment in their catalog I love more than that long pause on the last “I’m gonna leave you the first chance I...get.”

I have never felt the love for the river that most people on this website have. Same can be said about everything after Hot One on METN. None of it is bad but it just doesn’t grab me.

It’s such a chills moment on that record. I am totally with you. This song captures so much that is right about the band. There’s so quite moments, the a release of emotions musically and vocally, it’s does t worry about being perfect, there feels like a conversation going on and it feels and summarizes a record. And to sneak in Jimmy, He Whispers as a chilling and eerie cinematic secret song after was brilliant.

There really feels like a divide in their fan base and a lot of it seems to be rooted in when or how people discovered this band.

I tried giving Cope another chance again this weekend. Even fuddled with the EQ settings on my stereo a bunch of times. No dice.

This was very good! The run from Bed Head through the end was terrific. I threw it on as we were driving yesterday and my wife just texted me to ask what it was. I can’t remember the last non-Taylor/non-Bon Iver album she added to her phone, lol. So there’s a glowing review

They’ve always done a good job promoting their albums outside the comfort zone by booking late night gigs, trying to to get on soundtracks and other avenues to promote their records to typical fans. Another band I’d love to see around for a very long time so it’s nice to hear they are enjoying some success (and I’m glad I like this record so much more).

They’ve widened the umbrella these last two albums, and managed to maintain that through the pandemic. That’s huge.
