Why not just say black women and trans men? Who else can get pregnant besides those two groups? If trans women can, they should jus the included in “women”, no? “Birthing people” sounds like the next “Latinx”.

 

well for one thing, "black women and trans men" doesn't include black non-binary people

Why say “birthing people” when you could say “pregnant people”? I don’t think most people draw that sharp of a line between when someone’s pregnant vs. the moments in which they give birth, and the only time I ever hear “birth” used as a descriptor is saying someone is a birthmother, birthfather, etc.

The more I type “birth” the more it doesn't feel like a real word

 

Seems like a case of the "euphemism treadmill" in language.

 

or don’t focus on the language she used — which is as inclusive as it possibly can be — and instead focus on the fact that people of color get substandard healthcare in our already garbage healthcare system. Y’know, her message she’s actually talking about.

True. Are those people (and black trans men for that matter) included in all the stats about the mortality rates for black pregnant women? Or are they usually listed in a separate category?

 

I think for people here that’s easy. But when you’re thinking about the public at large, how many of them are going to focus on her message instead of the turn of phrasing? I don’t really know if it matters in the long run, at least I hope it wouldn’t, but we like JUST got people to start realizing there’s a huge discrepancy in how black mothers are treated in hospitals haha. I don’t know if new language will throw people off or not.

though truth be told I don’t think I would have even noticed the phrase if the NARAL Twitter account didn’t point it out. So either I’m already super used to the inclusive language or maybe it wouldn’t throw normies off either.

I'm watching Law and Order: Organized Crime and it is the worst these shows have ever been. The entire season is about Dylan McDermot smuggling the COVID vaccine. lol

 

I wanted to watch it but heard it’s so terrible.

 

I assume it’s gonna be a different story every season right? I think it could work if they pick the right stories lol. I liked Stabler on SVU, he’s probably the most accurate portrayal of a cop on there lmao
