I really like it. It’s playful lyrically and it’s got great energy. I don’t get the hate either.

What's this email that's been sent today? I signed up to the mailing list but haven't received anything

  4. It's for this live stream where he's premiering "The Gathering" and announcing more stuff.

I know nothing about this new song and never looked up the lyrics from when he first played it a while back except for the snippet of lyrics shared here, but if it’s a song about gathering for the first time post quarantine.... lol yikes.

EDIT: went a few pages back and re-read the comments about the lyrics. lol this is going to be terrible lyrically

I’m curious if this will be a full band version or not. The song certainly suits that format after seeing it from his livestream.

Some takeaways for those who don't want to watch:

    * Dom from Muse and Jason Isbell feature on the same song with Frank

    * Looks like there will be a proper UK tour announcement tomorrow... some Xtra Mile artists involved.. all outdoors and socially distanced

    * Rich Costey produced the upcoming album. He did Take Deck Heart and a bunch of great albums by other bands

    * Nigel, the Sleeping Souls drummer, parted ways with the group. He didn't give any details, but I think this was announced previously

    * He played two new songs: The Gathering and The Resurrectionists. I definitely prefer the latter.

Can you tell us more about the songs, what they compare to? Thanks.

Yeah, I think this was already announced about Nigel, but it's still a bummer. The guy was absolutely awesome in the live setting.

Adding on to this, he said Ilan Rubin (from NIN among other things) played drums on all of the other tracks.

Just listened to The Gathering from the link above and oh my god that is truly awful. It was literally everything I was hoping it wasn’t going to be.

I didn’t bother to listen to the other song.

The album itself is full-band though, correct...??? Like The Gathering on the album prob isn't going to be just Frank and his acoustic guitar, right?

Yeah I’m guessing so based on his description of some folks playing drums and all that. I’m sure it’ll sound fun ... but I cannot get past those lyrics.

The Resurrectionists title is a Charles Dickens reference. The song lyrics seem to be about the people he grew up with and where they're at now... kinda typical Frank Turner lyrics, but I dig it. Song starts in the video above at 11:20 if you want to give it a listen.

The other song is better, IMO.

That’s the song that will have Jason Isbell and the drummer from Muse. He talked about Jason playing guitar solos that he won’t be able to replicate, so it will definitely be significantly more than just him and a guitar.

That’s good to hear! I’ll reserve waiting out for its its proper release. I knew I’d hate the Gathering so I didn’t mind previewing it on the stream haha

This makes me feel better, haha. I still haven't listened to The Gathering, and I don't think I want to until the actual album comes out.

The direct references were to the people mentioned in Prufrock. Also, I agree that it was definitely the better of the two songs.

Always like summaries so thanks for this. I’m under the impression Nigel left in good terms to do more of his own band based on what I’ve seen. It’s probably hard to rely on another artist for your work even though he was a big part of the Souls.

I like the idea of Costey as I said before, because TDH turned out great and I wanna love a new Frank album. I’ll give the songs a listen I think. Don’t wanna spoil a new album already with no official details out.

the second song sounds like it has potential to be decent with a full band, so i will withhold judgement, but The Gathering is embarrassingly bad.
