“In this wildly tongue-in-cheek animated revisionist history, a chainsaw-wielding George Washington assembles a team of rabble rousers — including beer-loving bro Sam Adams, famed scientist Thomas Edison, acclaimed horseman Paul Revere, and a very pissed off Geronimo — to defeat Benedict Arnold and King James in the American Revolution. Who will win? No one knows, but you can be sure of one thing: these are not your father’s Founding… uh, Fathers.”

George Washington was a slave owning psychopath, not a cuddly movie superhero.

It looks like there will be at least a slight satirical bent, how successful of one remains to be seen, but looking into the director I wouldn’t take it at face value.

Mainstream American entertainment will poke light fun at the "Founding Fathers" but they always reinforce the central myth.

Probably, but the Adult Swim content I’ve seen isn’t usually that bad about stuff like that. We’ll see.

I highly doubt an honest movie will ever be made about the founding fathers. At least not from an American studio.

I mean, that is what looks like a half Robocop/half horse with a big sword. I am going to have faith that the movie is not glorifying the old racist presidents, lol

There is backlash to even the mildest of criticisms.

I was a History major and I teach U.S. History and I still didn't learn a lot of the real story until I started doing my own research for work. I didn't learn about how the American colonists were upset that the British were restricting them from taking more Native American land and that that was a major reason for the revolution until after college.

I recall my pre-college US history experience as being extremely uneven. In middle school, the death of Native Americans was explained away as just them not being immune to western diseases, but my high school teacher would rightfully call it out as a genocide. On the flip side, that same high school teacher insisted on calling the Civil War a struggle over states' rights rather than slavery. I took a college course that was all pre-revolution which was far more eye-opening to the reality of Native American history.

The teacher I replaced in my first teaching job had a binder labeled "The War of Northern Aggression".

An unfortunately common point of view. The failure of reconstruction had such a horrible effect on the country that persists to this day.

I find this entire thing on social media hilarious because Citizen Kane was not even ranked number one overall before this...AND Paddington 2 is ranked 59th overall on RT. As well RT having tons of random movies 100% critic rating as well, everything from Great Expectations (1940) to Leave No Trace (2018), so odd how this got picked up.

True Romance had a potent line up. From Slater/Arquette to Hopper, Kilmer, Pitt, et al... wow.
